Reading an earlier thread on scariest scene prompted me to start this thread.

Scariest would have to be the exorcist and house on haunted hill.

Most underated would be Blair witch project and house on haunted hill.

All of these when watched properly are as scary as . e.g:

Blair witch project when they're in there tent and you hear the voices of children and when they find those objects on the trees, that was en creepy as .

House on haunted hill when the guy looks at the screen showing doctors operating, looks away and when turns back to the screen there all staring at him. :nervous:

Another underated movie is the grudge. people bag it but you gotta admit was en creepy.

all of these are better than that I know what you did last summer style crap.
Danny Ocean
Audition..this jap horror film...look for it...its disturbingly scary

House on the Haunted Hill is the only one that every scared me.

Blair Witch? Ambitious crap. I'm not scared by shaky cameras.
The Ring? Laughable "ooh, televisions are scary" movie.
etc.

Actually, I believe the Blair Witch Project, although as a whole was awful, had one truly frightening scene. When the last person living find the house in the middle of the woods and their are bloody handprints leading down the stairs. Then of course the person waiting in the corner for "their turn". Anyways, Event Horizon was pretty damned scary.

a friend linked me to a student made horror film a few days ago, about 5 minutes long. It's actually scarier than most real horror movies, definitely worth checking out.

That wasn't very scary at all. And it completely ripped off the music from Halloween when Michael Myers is going after Jamie Lee Curtis. Thanks for the link though.

yeah, that movie made me so paranoid every night. i would refuse to even open my windows on hot, sweaty summer nights.

I remember I used to be pretty scared of The Moth Man Prophecies.

Things that stare, things that you dont know what the they are, things that are quiet, and subtle, but just have a sinister intention...that kind of thing can be frightening. i remember that story that a TA posted about driving down a rural road at night and seeing some...beast thingy, that just stared at him. that was a bit creepy...

but still its only scary when it is something that Really could happen. monsters, ghosts; things that are not realistic just arnt scary.

The problem with House on Haunted Hill is that the movie tanks when they reveal the evil as being a giant cloud of ink!

I was quite partial to the scene where they put the guy in the crazy spining room. Very effective
