I've decided that it's time for me to get ahold of a motorcycle... a sport bike, in particular. I've always wanted one... and I will finally have the financial means to get a nice "starter" bike in early 2006. I'm going to use it mostly as something to play around with, but it could easily become my mode of transportation to work once I move up to the Seattle area. (I work downtown.)

I've only looked at a few bikes at this point, but I am pretty much set on buying a Suzuki. I like the Katana 750 in particular. It looks nice and has the right amount of power and handling for what I want to use it for. (Weekend rides through the city, up to the mountains, etc. will be frequent.) I guess my only question is whether it would be feasible to bring someone (i.e. girlfriend) along with me on a bike like that? Or would it not be possible/comfortable?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm planning to buy the bike used (2000-2002), so I don't want to spend more than $4,000 if I can avoid it.

Yeah right. I've had limited experience riding. I rode a Hayabusa once. I like living... and that bike would be the end of me within a week. WAY too much power. :toothless

Then go for the kawasaki ZX6R 636, it was my first bike, easy to handle. I still have it...wanna buy it from me?

I'd say definitely Yamaha R1 :)

Or I could just call him. Newb. Walker's been riding for a while. He'd set me up with a bike that would kill me.

and the busa, while probably jokes, are terrible ideas. 1 is for track, 1 is for stunting.

***ALL GEAR ALL THE TIME***

ive ridden for 6 hours in 110 degree weather in full black leather so dont tell me about getting hot. Ive been to cali and back and last year put over 20,000 miles on my bike. Ive crashed 1 time and my friend has crashed 4. all 25mph or slower and both of us would be disabled right now if we hadnt been wearing BOOTS PANTS JACKET GLOVES HELMET

EVERYTHING.

I could care less what your excuse is, and if youre too poor , dont get a ing bike. They are expensive to maintain, upgrade, and protect yourself on. my 5000 dollar bike has cost me 13+ so far. It isnt a sport for cheap asses who think they are invincible. Dont be a statistic.

Hondas are smooth and a little heavy. Great starter bikes as the torque and power delivery give you good times without danger. You can put on HRC later to make them track bikes, but you dont really need to.

Yamahas are lighter and much more spirited. The R1 is retarded because its only for track and stunters. Until this year the power delivery through their injection was untamed and hard to control. For experienced riders only. the 1000s are gonna overheat in traffic and the lighter makes like kawasaki and suzuki will be more prone to highsiding and power wheelies.

Suzukis are the track bike of the year for last 2 years. TRACK BIKE. Im sick of seeing stunters with a 3 inch chicken strip on either side of their tire dressed up in Bling bull. They are finally putting in oval gears in the throttles so that first 1/4 throttle isnt so brutal but these arent for the faint of heart, or the beginner.

Kawasakis...I like them a lot. The zx6r is great, light, agile. Again a slightly messy power delivery system and for experienced riders. Get an older sport bike that doesnt have the insane potential of the bikes out there today.

In the end, Honda is gonna be the smoothest, most reliable ride on the street. If you want more pep and more thrills, and dont mind getting little surges of adrenaline as your rear tire slides around, go for the more track oriented bikes.

600rs are more fun. They flick around corners and the 1000s have more centripedal inertia and are harder to turn. You dont need them until yuo get a 1 mile straight or a 160 mph sweeper on a track. You will have more fun on a 600 hands down on the street.

dont go for kawasaki RR they are race tune with high rpm power band. Youll over heat.

You want a full bodied bike, it is a wind shield and helps keep rain off.

Thats it for now.

I have 1 1998 Honda VFR800i Interceptor. Two Brothers Racing exhaust, gear driven cams, single sided swing arm. Am running Dunlop 208 rubber on the rear and 207s in the front. Still love it :)

Cheers.
Geoff
