Yes it does, it means you're not experienced at something (i.e. a clueless beginner, reason why it could be taken as an offence). |
i know it means a beginner or a newbie, but its a really relative concept.. it isnt determined by the post count (cause its just a number), niether by the quality of your posts (cause once again that is even more relative, everyone has an individualistic opinion anyway).. u can only be a newbie if u attempt to say something specific about science for example, when u never learned it or read about it... otherwise, u simply express your opinion... its more n00bish to try to label other people by saying "n00b".. labels dont fit to people, we are much more diverse than that.. anyways, i guess i said enough for now... |

But that's true for pretty much all labels out there. However, if we were to be picky about the meaning, it would be both based on post count and post quality. Simple as that. As soon as someone with low post count and/or "not appropriate" views post, the noob status would be granted. |

Exactly, the term draws meaning from where it is used.
I call the new starters at works noobs because they are new and dont know much about the job yet.
Go to MD proclaiming that Tiesto is the be all and end all of trance and you shall be called a noob, and rightly f*cking so :p
COR tends to use it for either new joiners who are cocky, people who post opinions that are stupid, general playful banter amongst friends and people who spam or post idiotic threads/replies.
At the end of the day though, only a noob would take offense to being called one, as they know that they are.
Call someone who isn't a noob one and they wouldnt give a toss :D |
