He's blown the roof off the place every time I've seen him over the years.

Hands down - the greatest and most influential DJ of all time. ;)

Search for him at The Premier in Seattle back on April 8th, and you'll find my review. In short, his set was horrid and disgusting, and I wouldn't see him again if you paid me. However, I've seen a lot of stuff supporting him being back in his groove lately, so I dunno.

Oakey was in at 4th and B a couple couple of time of recent.

It was early 2004 and he spun with Perry from Janes and it was a good time.

The second time . . . well this is from a guy who does a local blog here.

BYW the Crystal Method opened . . .

After The Crystal Method finished their encore, Pauli P came back on to entertain the crowd while they set up Oakenfold's gear and they tore down the Crystal Method's (they had a show Saturday in San Francisco to get to and one in L.A. on Sunday!!!). Pauli did not fail to delight the crowd again.

Then, Oakenfold decided to finally take the stage. He had spent all evening flirting with some beautiful Brazilian women that were entirely out of his league. I guess that is why he decided that (unlike originally scheduled) he was going to have TCM open for him and he was going to DJ last. The thought of having a live band open for a DJ is ludicrous, but that is what you get from an egomaniac like this guy. He should have spent more time preparing his set than flirting because let me tell you, if this is the "most famous DJ" in the world, he is doing everyone a disservice.

Paul Oakenfold played for barely an hour, all the while thinking that making faces and pointing at the crowd would somehow make his mixes sound better. I especially enjoyed when his mixer kept dropping the entire right channel into silence- nice touch. The music he played was old and tired, with every track available for sale on any mix CD- nothing new, no white labels, no test pressings, no acetates, no exclusive remixes, nothing to make you go WOW. SAD. To make it depressing, the only lighting on the stage were some lights that you would expect to see at a 16th birthday party- he just DJed in the dark!

Then barely an hour into it and without notice, he waves Pauli P up on stage. I thought he was going to thank him for warming the crowd up, or even let him play a record during his set to honor Pauli. Then without a word Oakie left the stage. Did he go to the bathroom? Doubt it. Was he going to go flirt with the Brazilian girls? No, they were right next to me. Where did he go? Who knows, but when the crowd realized he was gone, they were shocked and dismayed.

Let me start off by being the first to officially ask Paul Oakenfold NEVER to visit San Diego again. Do not come to this town again, do not rip people's money off again, and do not insult us again. This DJ is on his last days, milking his name and fame for all it is worth before it is all gone, and I for one am not buying into it, nor will I allow him to get away with it. There are hundreds of A-list DJ's that make an effort and care about the crowd, and there are thousands of lesser known DJ's that really rock and put on a great show, so why would you give $35 to this guy to prance around on stage for just barely an hour (remember that's playing maybe 10 - 15 records)? Anyway, more about Oakie later.

Had it not been for The Crystal Method's amazing and consistent 110% performance, I think many people would have asked for their money back. I would have.

ok.. a bit bitter...

i guess you wont be going out that night hehehe :-P

sorry you had such a ty time..

This time will be different for sure.

(btw, lighting and sound issues are not the DJs fault)

but... ty mixing and s hort set... not good..

like i said, this time that will not be happening :-)

give oakie a chance, he has definitely turned his style around.

Oakie could queue up a slip mat and I'd still see him again. Two of my three greatest sets ever (Crasher 99 in Leeds and Goa). He's a legend. :D

It has nothing to do with bitter. The show was horrible. He played for less than an hour and left. I have never seen a dj (or band) do that ever.

Look, the reason I'll probably go is to see you and Victor. Anything else is a plus. But if you are trying to market this to people in San Diego because of Oakey you may have an issue. At least to the folks who attend that disaster. Thats why I posted what I did. Not to start a flame :)

If you were there that night you would feel the same way . . . probably more pissed off.

I have never seen you spin but from what I have heard you give it your all. Thats what I go out to see.;)

i heard about that show and i heard a rumor why he walked out. i wasnt there and im not going to justify anything but he was very unhappy with the dj and sound set up and was frustrated (again i could be wrong as i was not there so dont hold me to it)

taking that into consideration, im going great lengths to make sure 4th and b has never sounded better. im having a meeting with a sound company next week and were going to work closely with them and bring the best possible sound rig we can. were also going to invest in some lighting that puts the dancefloor to another level

ill never force anyone to come to an event, ill make you want to come :)

Respectfully considered!

I was a Yankee fan back when they had no pitching and Don Mattingly was the only player who carried the team with his bad knee and all. They couldn't win and they got no respect back then. Steinbrenner wised up and started investing in his management, staff, and players. Now look what they have become. They are a superstar team with the biggest fan base in the Major leagues.

We have an incredible budget for this event. If we didn't believe in our abilities to make this production a huge success we wouldn't be doing it. This event has our name on it and we are proud to present it. We have conveyed to Paul that we have the utmost faith in him and he will be provided with the tools to deliver.

Two mangers can lead a team and one might drive it to the ground and the other can lead it straight to the pennant.

Lost Episode employs the resources and the management to make this event a grand slam in game seven of the World Series. I'm proud to be a part of history in the making.

That's what Lost Episode is all about. We can all sit around complaining about what's wrong or some of us can choose to do something about it. I know I like having a great time and I'm not going to wait around for it to come to me. It's all about making it happen. We are doing it. We aren't going to wait for someone else to do it better because we might be waiting forever.

Beautifully put St. Michael. Cant wait for this event. I was as most people are, an Oakenfold despiser. He was as Tiesto is now, the best and then began making questionable decisions. Either way he is still a great DJ and very influential in the process of dance music. With Lost Episode and what they represent & bring to the table this event is sure to go off. Besides, Victor Dinaire and Kristina Sky in itself is reason enough for me to attend. Thanks for making it all possible.

CND,

Thanks for the honest review, i just remember him back in his "glorry days" of rave on the rocks when i lived in CO, havn't seen him lately... hopefully more honest reviews like yours will hit the TA, i havn't seen him spin in years, but i have heard hes switching it up and giving the fans what they want lately, which is what its all about!

let me clarify about the Jes thing:

There was an issue regarding her billed as "Motorcycle" at an LA show that I dont want to get into right now coz its none of my business. Some people werent happy about that. We want to do the right thing with everyone when we organize our events.

Motorcycle as a booking would be Dave Dresden, Josh Gabriel and of course Jes. She will be singing some of the Motorcycle hits along with some new material. We are honored to host her at her first ever San Diego performance. Also look out for an exclusive interview of Jes on my Lost Episode radio show !

Nitemer using Mr. Pink's account from ATL:

Jes has been booked as Jes from Motorcycle a lot lately for exactly those reasons. If it's billed as Motorcycle Josh and Dave need to be there. By stating it clearly, this way, customers don't feel slighted by expecting the whole group. It's the appropriate way to do it and my friend just had her out for the Church and Rave on the Rocks, under the same moniker. She put on a hell of a show here and is an absolutely sweet girl. Look out for "Around You". Phenomenal track!

Good luck Victor. Tell your friend that was out that I said what's up.
