Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called "Chains".

Yeah, it is "6 degrees of separation." Will Smith made a movie by the same title years ago, before he was massive....

It's actually 6 people not 7 and funny enough lately I've been discovering that it's freakishly true.
And it's not that you know everybody but you are somehow connected to everyone in the world...
Now if only I could remember what it's called - it was on CSI once
"6 degrees of separation" I think |

7 degrees of separation? And all this time I thought it was 6. All that networking only to realize now that I am never going to meet Kevin Bacon. mmmmmmmmmbacon. |

by the way , there are tons of books for this emerging theory... "Linked" and "Nexus" being the two most profound.
The network/connectivity theories extend way past just social connections... some people postulate that EVERYTHING is connected within 7 or so links. Business, personal life, science, etc, all have hidden connections. |
