| I want to start a web page that would hopefully have hundreds, or thousands of members. They download videos from my site, or jsut view it in their browser. Also, it would have a forum, somewhat similar to this site, but instead of downloading the live sets you have video. Anyways, I have no idea where to even begin finding out what web host I should use. If someone knows this info I would greatly appreciate it. Also, how much would it cost for a web designer of a site like this? Thanks. |

| not so much for teh web designer.....but Im seeing bandwidth as costing you the most. along with teh hassle of obtaining rights to all the live sets and vids. |

Videos are the same as singles, the labels dont like you sharing them unless you have a lisence. But if you live in russia then they that wont affect you. But the label whose videos you are sharing can still try and sue you.
To get a license will need you to contact the people in your country who handle this kind of thing, like the riaa in america. We all like them.
They may take months to reply, and sort out a license, but the license will depend on how many downloads you get, etc.
So to afford the cost of that you will either need to advertise or charge for access.
As for a server, look at a sites like ipowerweb.com. Giving you a dedicated server to handle the large demand on system resources from the forum software (php, and mysql backend) It will cost you anywhere between £30 to £50 a month to have 1500gig bandwidth per month, but with large files to download this could be eaten up in days, depending on demand.
And as for the site design, and forum, site templates can be bought from places like 4templates.com and forum software is available from invision power board, or vbulletin that this forum is run on. Most now charge. phpbb is still free i think. Most forum software also have support sites offering moderations to the code, and this is where you can find mods to allow videos to be streamed on the forum. So you could setup the website for next to nothing with videstreaming.
But it will cost you a lot of money overall, and if it doesnt get extemely popular quickly you wont pay of the license fee, but that will also mean paying more for a better server. Bandwidth is the most expensive thing at the moment.

| Sorry for the confusion. I appreciate the responses. This is all original video, for non-music purposes and probably about 1 to 2 hours worth of video, in separate 1-10 minute clips. Once again, I apologize for not making that clear. |

Just subtract all that stuff aobut licencing then. massive costs in bandwidth a month, unless it is compressed to hell and not a large download. |

| Actually I have been talking to someone that has done this before, got he name through here actually and the bandwith (about 30 GBs worth) is only 25 a month. The only problem is storage, as this same service only provide 5 GB of storage and eventually we will probably go over that. If anyone knowns of any better hosts please let me know. |
