How to make that Mauro effect

I was wondering how to make that effect that Mauro Picotto uses in alot of his productions. Here's a sample from Tyrell corp - Running 2.0 (Mauro Picotto remix), it's between the 5 and 6 second mark. Is it possible to do this in Reason?

i haven't heard your sample (where is it?) but if you mean the ole mauro bassline this is kinda how you get it (well it's more how to get that sound from mr oizo - flat beat, or dooms night (timo maas mix) but it's the same idea, otherwise muck around with the base waveform.

Take a square waveform
set up a filter-LFO, so that it cycles in approx one beat (if you need to program in seconds, about 0.434 for 138 bpm). set it to triangle, so that it goes from very low filter cutoff, to mid cutoff, and after the cycle it immediately drops back. Set resonance somewhere near 20-50%. Now if you strike low notes, you should get the desired effect. Mess with LFO cutoff settings, and LFO length (usually a tad longer that one beat does the trick for not getting undesired high parts in one beat). If you strike the note at the beginning of each beat, lasting one beat, it'll work.

[edit] I listened to the track you mentioned and I hear that bassline isn't in there so you must have meant something else...wot?[/edit]

Don't know why the sample doesn't work, but if you got the track, listen to it at 03:30 - 03:31 and 05:20 - 05:21

ok i know now what u mean. This isn't hard to do
I don't exactly know what sound picotto uses there, experiment some with closed hihats, shakers, handclaps and snaredrums

turn the cutoff frequency pretty much down (listen while you do it, so you can hear when to stop) and the resonace about half way up. Then play sixteenth notes with the instument to which u applied this (see closed hihat, or shaker or something)...it's probably a shaker or handclap

Just get your shaker, put it through a light reverb, then put it into the D-pole: set it to 24db lowpass and about 20 points of rez like piotr said, then use the dithering machine thingy to dither it to about sample rate 7000 or so, then dick around with the other parameters until you get it how you want..

Hope this was a little bit of help, theres a sample attached

cheers.

edit: why didn't the damn file attach?
mantisnl
maybe it`s because the sample was to big or wasn`t in mp3 :toothless

you can no longer attach any files of any type.

my guess is that becuase it was bogging down the server.

I noticed that too, real shame but I suppose it helps find alternative webspace.
