Damn, I just realized that all the prices I've been looking at have been for the...

Sigma 28-70 2.8EX DG ... NOT the DF

Is there any difference? The "DF" is not even listed on Sigma's site. Please advise. Thank you, lol.

OK, have learned that the DG is not the same as the DF. What the big difference are, I dunno. Don't think the DG is a dual focus one?

Anyhow, it looks like the DG is essentially just a newer model of the DF...do you know of any differences and if I should be looking for the DF over the DG? I'm having a real hard time finding it for Canon SLRs...actually, I can't find any. Can find them for Minolta and a couple others, but no one carries this model or has this model in stock for Canon's.

Now to more questions....

First, have any thoughts on the Tamron 28-75 f2.8? Seems like people love it's sharpness at f2.8 compared to the Sigma 27-70.

Lastly, you know anything about the Sigma 24-60 mm F2.8 EX DG lens? Have read some baords where people are changing their Sigma 27-70 lens to the 24-60 lens and say it was the right choice. A little more expensive, but might be worth it.

Hmmm...thats the bitch about Sigma, they release every lens in like 3 different models...

But I think you're talking about these two, the one I posted and:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/...7&cat=37&page=1

I havn't tried the one above, but its supposed to be pretty good too. 24 on the wide end is nicer than 28 aswell..

Also, when buying ANY sigma lens, make sure it has EX glass...this is alot better glass than the stuff they use on their consumer grade stuff...

I have heard that the Tamron is nice too...so you may consider it, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure.

Ugh, I dunno what to get!!!!!!!

Okay...gimme some time to research those and by tomorrow I'll have an in-depth report :p

Also, for the batteries...MAKE SURE they are the HIGHEST mAh possible. The higher it is the longer they hold juice.

Even brand X batteries are fine as long as the mAh is high...although they typically dont last long...although the same goes for the Canon batteries...I've had to replace mine once a year.
DaveT
Sweet. Thanks man...

As for batteries, for the camera I actually just ordered a two pack of 1100mah batteris from Sterlingtek...read a few places who recommended them and the battery can hold nearly twice the juice as the stock Canon camera...

And got both for only $29 !!!

Also bought a charger from them, too, while I was at it...

With Canon batteries and how long they last, yeah...they pretty much suck. We use all kinds of Canon equipment at work (FYI, I work in video production) and once the batteries get a good workout, they just go to hell.

As far as nimh AA batteries for the flash, there's a shootout here that compares exactly how good all the different brands/power are...it goes upto 2300mah but I've seen 2500mah and even one 2700mah around.

I'm just gonna get a 10-pack Power-2000 2700mah batteries for $25 from B&H with UPS 3-Day at $4.45...so they'll be here Tuesday.

Clovis86
Yeah those should do fine. As for the batteries...eh...I got some generic 1500mAh ones for 7$ off some site...and both lasted longer than my 1100 Canon batteries...but like I said...replace after a year cause they just die...

Canon makes an 1100 battery? The most powerful Canon battery I could find for the 350D was like 740mah.

My guess is you have a different Canon camera in the end. :-p

Anyhow, think once I'm set in all this, will get the battery pack for the flash plus a BG-E3 Battery Grip for the camera itself...but that's down the road. I've already spent quite a bit and still have the main lens to go. :p
