I'm buying a new harddrive and i have to match the interface speed between the new drive and the computer.

How do I know what the interface speed is?

Probably the IDE bus speed. The new IDE hard drives are all pretty much UltraATA133. They require the yellow 80-wire IDE cables for optimum performance. They will operate at UltraATA66 if you use the gray 80-wire IDE cables and at UltraDMA33 with the gray 40-wire IDE cables.

Check your motherboard manual for something like UltraDMA 133/100/66/33, relating to the PCI IDE bus. If you've got a newish computer, it shouldn't really matter. The new IDE hard drives should all work...unless you already have a SCSI HDD or S-ATA HDD.
