18+ events? Feedback wanted!

Just looking for some opinions..hopefully you guys can help me out!
What's the general take on 18+ events?
Are there a lot of people in new york who would come out to an 18+ event on a weeknight?
Are there a lot of people that are stuck home and unable to go to certain venues because they aren't quite 21 yet?
Do you feel like new york NEEDS an 18+ weeknight event?
If you're over 21, are you turned off by the 18-20 crowd?
Does it have to trance? Do you listen to techno?
Please click as many options that apply and PLEASE post your comments!
Thanks for your input! |

| It depends. Im 18 but i can get into alot of the places because I know about 30 bouncers(not showing off). But the 18+ parties Ive been to suck balls compared to the 21+ |

| Lets be real, no one will come out unless its a top 10 DJ. |

this is the general idea most people have in their heads.. but is it really the truth?
DO ALL THE PEOPLE NOT RESPONDING IN THIS THREAD REALLY FEEL THAT WAY?
If 44 people have looked at this thread.. why are there only 2 responses?
ever heard the expression, "the blind lead the blind"?
can't we put that BULL behind us? Does it really take Tiesto or PVD to get you out of your house? Has it really come to that? (you know.. there was a time when no one had heard of those guys either, but they were supported on the local level before becoming international stars) If this is really true, this is why the future of electronic music is doomed. There are whole entire crops of amazing dj's who are stuck in this "middle-zone" because of this EXACT reason. there is no support system for dj's to climb up with.
I'm sure some of the people who said "no" did so because they are over 21 and feel that 18+ nights are typically cheesy. That is not the intent of this poll.. the intent is to see if those IN that 18-20 range (assuming there are some on this message board) are willing to check out dj's that ARE NOT on the top 10 of thedjlist.com.
In case you haven't noticed.. there is almost no new blood coming into our scene. A large reason for this is that there are very few QUALITY events for the 18+ crowd to go to anymore (nevermind those below 18!). And the ones that do come around are always for the same 6 dj's. How can we expect this music to survive in 10 years? We'll all be 30 and 40 and techno/trance/house/etc will go the way of disco and be stuck in a zone it will never be able to get out of listening to the same 6 dj's.
This thread has only been up for a few hours, so I'm not giving up just yet.. but I do want to hear some more opinions!! |

| On a weeknight, it will take a top 10 DJ to draw a crowd. Also, theres a good number of us that arent very fond of the 18+ crowd. |

i completely disagree. it's nice to go out on weeknights just to hang out and listen to music. it's not like it has to be in a huge club. |

I dont know about you, but I gotta work in the morning, and most of us 21+ have bills to pay, in debt from school loans and kids to feed.
PS: I know youre 21+ and you work. |

| I'm 23. And so are all my friends. And we all work. We go out to bars on weeknights a lot. Now, I wouldn't travel to the city on a weeknight, but if I lived there, I'd be there. And 18+ wouldn't bother me at a little place. It's at big clubs that 18+ ruffles my feathers. |

Were not talking going to a bar and getting back home at like 12-1AM. |

Are you sure of that? I assumed this would be a lounge-type deal that ended at 2... |

| well, it all depends on work, school etc etc the next morning...most people including myself hate trekkin into the city jus to chill there for a few hours then leave at 2-3 to wake up int he morning for work/school. thats the downside to thursdays..but goddamn if i lived in the city different story, id be there. its the whole 45 min train ride i gotta deal each way from long island that makes me not wanna go out to nyc on a thursday night, also my under 21 friends dont help and they dont ever wanna even hit up 18+ events in the city cuz its not there deal which sucks cuz im always ending up going by myself and meetin all you mofos there haha. also sucks cuz im a dj too and i can never draw a crazy crowd to come support for this same very reason |

Let me start off my saying....Vlad your wrong. I started going to Metropol in Pittsburgh when I was 18 and there was no top notch DJ there. I know times have changed but not in this sense. We all know that if there was something for the under 21 crowd to do durring the week.....damn straight they will be doing it. It doesn't matter if PVD or Tiesto is playing there. And you can't sit there and say...."oh well people have work and have bills to pay." BULL !!! When I was 18 all I wanted to do was party my ing ass off and that's what I did. Work in the morning didn't matter...I went to work hung over and didn't have bills to pay at that age (well not many.)
So my answer to you is......Yes, if there was an 18 and up event going on durring the week, it would do good. Would I personally go to this event being that im now 25...no.;) |
