Reason2.5 Midi device question
View this Thread in Original format

yesterday i got myself a midi wire, in order to connect a midi device to game port of the sound card
now, anyone knows step by step how to configure it so it would work
and is it possible for example in redrum, the redrum lane instead of writing each note, simply punch it in on my midi device (casio) and it would come up, same with subtraktor, simply punch in a melody and it would automatically be recorded in the sequencer.

i dont think redrum has midi cabability!

did you get software for you device?

maybe go to the manufacture website for device support! DRIVERS!

Yes, you can control ReDrum with your midi controller. However, unlike Subtractor, ReDrum is only mapped to one octave of your keyboard, which I believe is the that starts on either C2 or C3 (I would just check every key). The first instrument in ReDrum will be C, the 2nd C#, 3rd D, etc.

however that wasnt my question

my question was, how to , step by step configure my midi device for it to work on the redrum, yes, i've chose the bus and stuff, the channel is "1" and is linked to lets say redrum, but no input whatsoever
one other thing, may the issue be in volume control section in windows? like line volume, ummmm, midi volume? stuff like that
in reason, midi and advance midi options, what should be set in there

the keyboard that i have is casio ctk-533 series
so does it require additional drivers or is it enough just to configure reason for it to work

casio midi out -> computer midi in (by any means)

in reason's preferences... go to the midi page and in the port tab, your midi device should show up as a midi input.

then go to the advanced midi page and on the bottom, in the remote control tab, select your midi device again.

now, in the sequencer window, just select the device you want to play and you should also see a midi symbol next to the device you have selected showing that it's currently receiving midi.

i have MPU-401 showing up as well as Yamaha PCI external MIDI which i suppose is the midi device your talking about, then what should i choose in the BUS-A? you forgot to mention that

should the MIDI sync be enabled when playing reason, should record button be on and switch turned to "replace" instead of "overdub"
No Left Turn
initially, you don't have to set anything for the buss midi input. you'd only need to use that if say... you have 2 main leads, but each of those leads are made of 3 subtractors... you could assign 3 subtractors to buss A and then the other 3 to buss B. then in the preferences window assign each of those busses to a different controller so that you could control/play the 2 lead sounds individually.

overdub/replace just depends on how you want to record your midi. overdub will let you add onto the midi that you're recording over and replace will erase the midi you're recording over and replace it with what you're playing.
