i started pretty much this same thread a couple weeks ago. didnt really get any help. but what im starting to think is the trick to getting kick sounding good with the track is eq'ing the other sounds in the track before eq'ing the kick. it might have something to do with compression too but i dont understand how to use compressors one bit.

You can create some in soundforge with fm synthesis. Layer a snare.......a hihat.....play with eq's, then use the compresser :D

Why don't you try his advice using different kick drum samples?

If you have SoundForge/Cool Edit or whatever it's easy to cut a load of kicks from tracks and play around layering them until you have something totally new.

Thank for the tips guys. But im not that off. I know how to make a Kick, BUT i just can´t get the sound that i want. (trying to get a Alphazone like kick) :( Well, i just have to continue trying. I know thats the way it should be though :tongue2 But i just got fed up trying, so i just needed to ask! Well thanks again. You will hear from me when my track is ready :tongue3

oh if thats the problem just try, then try again, if it still doesnt sound like you want try again, and again lol
think about the main attributes your kick must have: does it have a click? does it sound large and muffled etc etc and try to do them one by one

That thread can seem pretty complicated to some newbies (who usually ask this question). I replied to a similar thread a while back HERE

This is my way of producing decent kicks:

How do I add overdrive? I use that cheeky little plugin in FL Studio called 'Fruity Blood Overdrive'! My advice to anyone programming kicks is not to overdrive a kick sample twice because the kick starts to sound 'skwishy' (pardon the expression) and you lose the punchness.

I tend to layer two kicks - a punchy kick coupled with a subish kick to make it breath a little and add depth, (use the in and out dials - ‘precomputed effects‘ in the channel settings on a sample instance in FL). These vary the amount of volume either at the start or end of the sample - very helpful! You have to be very careful when you choose your kicks when you layer them. You can’t choose any old kicks. What happens is the two bass frequencies of the kicks cancel each other out resulting in a dip (rather than a tapered waveform) which sounds mashy and real crap! When you've got a nice tapered waveform kick you can add rim shots which add a little punch or add a hi hat to give it that ‘tiss’ sound at the start of the kick (G&M Project style). I never compress the kicks because you tend to compress them in the mix.

Generally that’s how I do kicks, basically explained in a nutshell! Sometimes I layer 5-6 different samples and render them many times to get a kick I like so, patience is a virtue!

I hope I have explained things well enough so you all get the picture! I’d be happy to help further if anyone need anymore advice!

Cheers Steve
