Hey Everyone,
I am running microsoft ME on two computers here in my house. I have them networked and all that works fine. I am trying to get an ftp setup on my machine here, and as far as I know everything is setup fine within that. But...nobody can get into it. I am thinking it is because a firewall that is setup. Does anyone know where I can disable any firewalls that ME might have setup?
Thanks in advance,
Steve |

| i doubt ME has a firewall running as defualt . its prob your ftp client software. check the settings for permission , maybe the folder you have set up is "read only" right click on it and check the prop's |

need more info on your network configuration.
WindowsME does NOT have a built in firewall. If you are using Internet Sharing that ME does allow, than that IS the problem. Internet Sharing doesn't allow IP/Port forwarding (from what I remember) -- which is what you need to give people access to a FTP server you create. |

how big are the files you are trying to send...and what is the message you get when you do try to send files?
for example, are you able to attach the file to the email and it allows it? Can you hit the SEND/RECIEVE and it tries to send it through, but crapz out? Does it actually get sent through and returnz right back? |

any size.... and when i try to send it, i dont get any msgs, it just times out... and when im on mIRC and try to dcc, mIRC just disconnects after a few minutes (of waiting)
and attaching is no problem, just sending ppl files, like on mIRC, icq, msn, anything... |

hmm
k try this
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
in services sort the list by 'Status' so that what's STARTED is up on top.
go down that list and look for anything in the description that appears to handle TCP/IP, Routing, Firewall, NetBIOS. Play around with the settings and test it out if it works.
Note: write down whatever you change, so that you can change it right back
btw: are you behind a router/hub? |

| hub... but im also on a server... but when i used inet through the server, i couldnt upload at all, so we switched inet directly to the hub |
