Because many people didn't show up, it felt like such a personal atmosphere. I mean, after each performer was done you could just go up to them and chit chat, shake their hand, get an autograph, picture, whatever no problem. It felt like all of those artists came from overseas to give me a private concert, lol. I just hope this doesnt stop promoters from doing something like this again in the future.

Yes, we're all home from Groovefest. In attendance, Matt , Gavin, Mario, Sue...

So, uh.... ok, it's like this.... like, probe your brain for the most incredible club experiences that you've ever had! Ok, think about that thought for just a bit, u know, how while it was happening and time just stopped and have you everything that you had ever wanted to happen in a SINGLE event.... I bet that's a great thought ur thinking right now... heart rate goes up, u start to smile...u r thinking about that experience and joy is just overwhealming your heart and spirit.... you can't help but reach right into that memory, pull it out, and totally relive it...

Well, I'll share.... Groovest is this memory. Hands down, i experienced so many spiritual things tonight that will stay with me.... these experiences were so incredibly soulful... Basically, we were at the fest for 9 hours.... i can say, that in that nine hours, i had moments that answered so many unanswered questions in my clubbing soul.... it was as though the Almighty chose this particular night to answer all my questions and physically show me what I needed to know about clubbing, raveing, EDM, all over again, just like the old days...

Now for the lighter side of things, Groovefest OWNED!!!!!!!! Yes, it does suck that sooooooo many people decided NOT to come, as in I think they def didn't make a profit..... BUT, it was just a great time... seeing Blank and Jones,Numinous and Habersham, JK, Andain, Jes, Nadia, Skribble, Darude...and THE set of THE event goes to Mr. Charles Feelgood.... OMG, s0n, you brought it and owned us ALL.... the that he spun was fuking SICKKKKKKKKKKKK straight up duurty house! He OWNED .... Blank and Jones have some really great tracks, but their mixing was terrible.... But, please give props to these guys cause at the "Best", they were spinning to a crowd of 75-100.... lol.. They spun some great tracks, but didn't leave any real impression on me :-(.....maybe next time. Skribble was greattt, spinning all kinds of stuff >Trance, Trible House, House, Techno...... JK was also off the chain... there was barely anybody in the room, but a few people lazing on the vip couches. JK spun the SICKEST prog trance set.... this made me the dance alone guy...i was the only person on the dance floor tearin it up while all the lazy people ing just laid, listened, and watched....lol (BTW, this led to me getting hit on by a really hot chick, so props to JK) Andain was good, Nadia was good, Jes was good too.... no complaints there. They were all really impressive (and sexy as hell)
The set of the entire event goes to Charles Feelgood. Nothing but banGING house music.... nice and fast and just incredible... he had, what few people were there, bustin their nuts dancing.... EVERYONE was dancing when he was on the tabble..amazing amazing set.
Track of the night HAS to be "Take on Me" (Some sick bangin house remix that Feelgood spun)

Anyway, not many people came.... like, it was insulting to some of these djs spinnng to just ahandful of people. I sincerely hope that this isn't the 1st and only Groovfest... I saw sooooo many old school ravers there, it was great... the vibe was straight up rave crowd, with some uptown clubgoers mixed in and it was amazing! I SOOO hope to see this event again next year..... Although it was hotttttt, the heat felt goooood..it was just an awesome, wonderful, soul serving event (4me ;) )

Anyway, for ALL those that missed this event, u really missed out on something great... we go and have good times in the clubs, but this was about putting the music first and celebrating the fact that the music is what we love, more than anything else.... That's what dance festivals are for.... to break the norm..and to get fuKed uP ;-)

The people that came, u could sense this emotion on them, for the most part. Although a definate revenue loss for In Like Flynn/Surface/5AM Music, the people that WERE there were reminded that fancy clubs, lots of people, crazy clothes....don't matter...what matters is the music...how it stakes it's claim in your soul....how it, sets up shop inside ur spirit and becomes a part of u....

Welcome to groovefest 2005: A major course in study of P.L.U.R.

The End.

Thanks for such a well thought out review.

IMO..

I was way surprised with the turnout! The prices were right, the day was nice and the music was great! This was a major event for Atlanta and while the crowds may have not been as big as we hoped during the day the afterparty was SLAMMED!

So maybe people just dont like being outside all day. Who knows.. The fact is that this event went off. Everyone was there. Some killer sets were thrown down and we move forward...

Thanks to all of you who did make it out and MAJOR ups to "In Like Flynn" for working so hard to put this together!!

With regards to B&J's mixing its a miracle they were even able to mix at all. They played a major event the night before didnt even make it back to their hotel to sleep. Instead they picked up their bags and hopped on a plane, only to get here before their set. Also, there was so much bass bouncing back from the building infront of the stage I was sitting there wondering how they were mixing in the first place. We will have them back soon. In a club and let them show us what they got. Hey, they played their Cream mix which made my day!

ok so... Next up... This friday, Noel Sanger at the Mark and 9/17 with Christopher Lawrence at Compound!!

Best Regards,
Jonathan Allyn

+1 - It is great to have a big line up but you have to have a rock to anchor the rest of the acts... Try the same event with PVD, Ferry, Sasha, Ect... People will come for the B list DJs as a warm up for the A lister you have later in the night... (No offense to the DJs that that came that I am calling B listers!)

blank and jones had a tough gig, but they pulled it off with grace and that's what counts...i'd see those guys anytime cause they're awesome, always have been in my eyes... everyone has a bad day or two, but i wanna see em back soon ;)

btw- i REALLY wanna see Feelgood come back and headline a night at compound.... that'd be sick! :toocool:
