That not a soundcraft- nick used to use a soudcraft spirit studio....then upgraded to an Otari Status analogue desk as shown in the pictures. In answer to your question, you can pick up a Status 18R 48 channel in top condition for about 10k. That is used- not new.
Its a digitally controlled analogue with moving faders and total recall. I know of one currently for sale in london in the same spec as nicks.
However-back in the saltwater/offshore days he used his atari and soundcraft....... |

www.olympicstudios.com - the mix suite has to be seen and heard to be believed. Owned by spike stent who is incredible at what he does.
www.strongroom.com - one of the best vibes anywhere.
Plenty of others too that make confetti look like a very basic set up indeed.
As audio colleges go, confetti is certainly not the worst, but its also not the best!
I know lots of pro studios that would humble it in terms of facilities.......and that includes paramount-which conntrary to your post is slightly more than good for just film production.
Would post more but im knackered and need some sleeeep.
p.s- are you doing a btec nd? Would be interested to see how the curriculum has changed since I did mine (not at confetti!) many moons ago |

IMO (and my teachers at confetti) those studios that you have pointed out are actually over equipped and uneconomical, at a glance confetti may seem inferior to other BIG studios but infact pound for pound on a studio recording session you would pay 5x the amount that confetti would charge and you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference in sound anyway.
TBH im not really that botherd about which is better or not.
Yes I am on the BTEC DP.....you can check on the site to see if anything has changed since you were a student btw.
