so.. just out of curiousity, the s3000, 3500, and 5000 platters all spin? but the pioneer cdj-800's and 1000's don't?? |
The pioneers don't have a rotating belt-driven platter, however they do have a platter that moves back and forth, but doesn't spin. Hard to explain ... the pioneers move back and forth enough for you to scratch, it's not the same style platter as the CDJ100/200. Have a look at the videos on the pioneer site if you want a better explanation |

Yeah basically on the 100 the jog wheel can just be used to speed up and slow down the track, or search through frame-by-frame when paused.
The 800/1000 can work like that OR can be set to act like a vinyl surface (so that when you touch the top it acts as if you've just touched the surface of a spinning record) and hence can be used to scratch.
The sampling technology to manipulate the sound in real-time to allow scratch emulation is more advanced than just speeding up and slowing down, so (although available at the time the 100 came out) they chose not to include it as it would have increased the price and development time needed for the 100. Also, a touch sensitive platter surface is required to know whether you're touching the 'record' or not which obviously adds even more to the cost and takes more advanced technology. |

This looks very smart, my mate got an email about it the other day and showed it too me.
Check out the full specs here http://www.decks.co.uk/products/cdplayers/denon/dns3500 You can zoom right in on the images.
Feel sorry for the people that bought the DNS-5000 because at £699 in the UK this looks like a good cdj to beat the Pioneer imo. |

If its anything like the DN-S5000 id stay away from it.
The turning platter sucks and the pitch slider is just too sloppy. |
I am soon to purchase one, can you elaborate more on why I shouldn't get it and what you mean by sloppy pitch slider, thanks |

| So how does the S3500 compare? Did they make vast improvements over the old 'belt drive' versions? Is it worth getting? Nobody has posted a review of what it is like. Better or worse than CDJ 800? |

| It's not out yet, and me thinks it would cain the CDJ800 by a mile! |

At £699 it'll be about $1259 USD. No way it's gonna come out at that price in the States...
Not even sure what it's competing against? CDJ800? CDJ1000? Somewhere in-between? (Prob). |
