Discrimination @ the work place
View this Thread in Original format

As most of you know, I work on the line at Chrysler...and last night I had one of the worst experiences ever. This isn't about getting put on a crappy job, or almost getting my legs broken last Friday night, when a gitney driver dropped 4 storage bins and almost took me out. It's about the disrespect that some of the workers have.

Last night, I was working on the engine line with this guy next to me who was the poster boy for white trash. I swear he was Goofy in human form. But...since this is a thread about discrimination, I want to take my own advice, and not judge him by the way he looks, or because his lifestyle may not be the same as mine.

What really ticked me off about him is this...
We work with a guy who is schizophrenic. He takes medication so that he can be somewhat sane and come in to work...apparently he has not ONCE missed a day. He can function properly and do his job, but he's always yelling out random stuff, and having conversations with himself, or with poles and what not. But if you leave him be, or just smile at him, he's completely harmless.

This jerk-off next to me, all night has been making racial, sexist and other discriminatory comments to all his co-workers...it seemed like it was in good fun, b/c the ppl were joking around back...even though I kind of got the feeling that he had a tendancy to go too far. I know that if he was saying some of the stuff he said towards me, I would have laughed it off, but actually have been hurt or offended by it...and I don't get offended very easily.

What he started doing though was yelling stuff at the schizophrenic guy. Things like "Go home you ing psycho"...and other such things which I do not even wish to disclose. He was saying how one day the guy was going to come in with a gun and just start shooting. Meanwhile, I'm thinking..."Yea, and when he does, you know who he's gonna shoot first? s like you!"

It just got me SO angry. I was completely offended by the things he was saying. I didn't know what to do though, so I just ignored him and kept on working. Fortunatly, I usually work in a different department, so hopefully I'll never have to work with this jerk again.

I know there was a thread similar to this a little while ago, and I posted in it about seeing a chinese guy get his ass kicked in downtown Windsor, over racial reasons. Can the world really be coming down to this kind of stuff? It makes me so upset to think that.

lol, I too work in a factory that manufactures car parts temprorarily (only 2 more weeks to go, can't wait), and I'd have to say at least half of the workers there are nuts in one way or another. They don't know it, but me and the other young co-workers (the company had a promotion where they gave jobs to the kids of the employees) have all noticed it. Doing the same thing everyday for 23 years obviously has some negative effects on your mental health. One guy still wears a mullet, and generally dresses like it's still the eighties.

Just thought I'd share.

P.S. GM quality inspection is horrible. When I first started, I used to throw away a lot of the parts as scrap, until the supervisor came by, and had to re-train me to tell me they're fine. Although they're really not. Oh well. Not like I give a .

kind of ironic that you lash out at racial discrimination by using the term "white trash" dont you think?

Used in this context this word is no better nor worse than saying the infamous N word.

Notice when I first start describing this guy, I refrained from describing him the way I would like to, b/c I thought it would be racist.
I do see your point though...and thus I changed the title.

im glad you do. There are too many incidences of double standards when it comes to so called "sexism" and "racism" that most people dont even realize since its so engrained into our culture.

I have found people make jokes about things that make them uncomfortable. Perhaps this co-worker of yours is frightened and feels threatened in his own weird way by the schizophrenic guy. The guy does not deserve to be called "psycho" though. My ex's mom was schizo and she DIDN't take her meds. Scary ! It made me very nervous but I didn't joke about it because I was too scared to make jokes :stongue:

** the below has nothing to do with this thread **

this doesn't really have a lot to do with discrimination, but i just wanted to let everyone know that some in an SUV today behind me driving home wanted me to move up at a red light so that he could make a right turn. this would have literally put me in the middle of the intersection. eventually he was able to eek by and told me to "move up f-u-c-k-e-r!!" and proceeded to give me the finger and then drive away. i was so enraged that i came close to wanting to follow the guy till we stopped at a red light and start some altercation. if i had a gun in my glove department i might not have even thought twice! sorry for the threadjack but this thread was already kinda about cars and idiotic people, and so enraged me today that i needed somewhere to vent. such a ing !!!

haha. I'd do the same as you did. Also, when people start inching up at red lights, I stay right where I am, and people start honking at me. I don't budge and love it. Sometimes if the person behind me is persistent enough, I'll switch the car to Reverse, but still have the brake on. Usually shuts em right up.

next time tell the to buy a smaller car.... im sure he would have had no trouble in a smart car. Otherwise id just ignore the ******. You have the right of way not him. Meanwhile im sure hed be the last guy to let you in if the lane merged.
