On Withholding Information

This is probably better suited for the MD, but I think the discusion here can extend far behind music so I'm putting it here. Incidentally, if anyone cares to move this, feel free.

Last night a person (who will probably read this) gave me a set to listen to which had a song in it that I referred him to which he was trying to identify. This set began with a song that I have kept close to my heart for the past year; it's a top notch opener and a great song overall. However, I made the mistake of mentioning that this DJ was using a track of mine, and this person (we'll call him Ron Burgundy) asked me to ID it for him. I could have easily told him the artist and title, but, having already given him the key to one of EDMs best closers (Schnieder TM and kpt_mich_gan - The Light 3000) I decided to claim that the song was something else.

I'm not sure why I did this. It's not like I'm particularly jealous or stingy with my tracklists (like the dj Burgundy provided me with) or even the songs I listen to. Alot of CORinthians have probably mistakenly clicked on one of my threads with nothing but lyrics. But I more or less lied to protect the identity of this track. Why do people conceal information when there is no reason to? What causes people to hoard information from others? And why do people stratify what information they share, and with whom.

Yes, I realize how many times I used the word information, but its 4am, and I must be lonely...

(and/or tired).

you found something amazing that set you apart i see no reason why not to withold it.

heh, i'd probably (selfishly) do the same thing too. i don't see anything wrong with it.

To clarify, i claimed I did not know the song.

I feel guilty. It's just music, and it's better shared than hoarded, as I well know. Why did i decide to act differently this time?

i withhold information to my mother, i come home stoned out of my brains, and she suspects somthing, so i withhold the information regarding my soberness.

It's normal withholding information. It becomes a problem when that's all you do.

it's an ego thing

information is power

remember that;)

I think withholding information is just a step away from flat out lying. People need to be more honest.
