Studio Monitors: Alesis M1 active Mk2 questions before buying

I got an audigy 2 ZS soundcard with a 7.1 speaker setup for watching dvd's, listening to music and other kinds of entertainment. For producing I got a pair of headphones.
I am thinking about buying the Alesis M1 active Mk2 monitors after reading reviews about it. I went to a retailer and I presented the problem that I don't have an audio interface on my soundcard. He was able to fix something to hook these monitors up to a minijack port on my soundcard. Then he presented an other problem. On most soundcard it's not possible to control the volume of the monitors using the minijack on the soundcard. So I got a couple of questions.
1. Is it ok/benifitial to hook up a pair of monitors on a semi-pro card like the audigy zs 2??
Audigy 2 ZS specifications
2. Is it even worth buying the monitors considering that I'll probably loose some quality by converting it to a minijack plug?
3. Can I control the volume of the Alesis M1 active Mk2, cause I will not buy it if I have to control the volume in Windows.
4. What can I expect from this $300 investment over my pair of headphones?
5. What kind of differences will be audible if I hook these monitors up to a pro card instead of my semi-pro card?
Audigy 2 ZS specifications
6. What kind of an affordable audio interface or new soundcard would you recommen for monitoring?

1. Yes
2. i have the same setup (also using mini jack) i think my sound is excellent.. (havent actually tested the sound with better cables, but i see no reason to do so
3. buy a mixer to control the sound, a cheap little one like this will do Behringer
4. less pain in ur ears..

I'll help you out:
1. Yes it is, but you aren't able to use the advantage of the monitors possibility to use a balanced connection, which you do not need in a home studio.
2. Yes it is. If you do buy a gold plated adapter, you'll have even less quality loss. What the seller is babbling about is just gibberish. The loss of quality will be so minimal that you won't be able to hear the difference. Unless you have no life and $1 000 000 gear to check it.
3. You can't control the volume of them unless you buy a mixer, but that would complicate your setup even more. Just use the Windows sound control panel at the low right of your screen.
4. That depends on your headphones of course, but monitors tend to be better than headphones when it comes to mastering. And you won't have to take them off every hour to survive the pain...
5. None in your case. Except from that you won't have to use an adapter.
6. Anything M-Audio.. FW410, Ozonic, Delta 1010... E-MU's interfaces is also good.
I'm sorry if any of the answers were either misleading or misunderstood. Feel free to ask if you are uncertain about something..
Cheers, ;)

If you don't wanna get a mixer just get yourself something like Samson c-control, or mackie big knob, thease things are made to control the volume of your monitors, and a lot more. samson c-control is like 100 bucks, and mackie big knob is more expensive. I have the samson c control and I use it for my gaming computer, where I have alesis m1 actives hooked up..
