Online Shopping? Where do you....
View this Thread in Original format

A thread devoted to online shopping. I'll admit it, I do it more than regular in store shopping. Why? No Tax! No Shipping (or very minimal and often offsets State Tax by alot).

So tell me if you do, where do you do it, and what do you buy?
Any deals or web savings? I for one do it alot! So here goes my fair share.

Computer Parts (no tax, OEM + Retail parts, little or no shipping 2day fedex express saver)
www.newegg.com
www.zipzomfly.com
www.chiefvalue.com

Snowboard
www.altrec.com
www.ebay.com

Electronics (of course tried and tested in stores)
www.crutchfield.com
www.buy.com

Well those are the top ones off my head, don't under estimate eBay, there is a ton of shopping to be done, you just need to research it before you buy. =)

crutchfield is a great store. the tradeoff is that their prices can usually easily be beat but their customer service is excellent.

there is a gem of a forum out there...

www.fatwallet.com/forums

die hard internet shoppers use this as their bible. the people who post on there are creative, to say the least. if you ever want a truely great deal on something, fatwallet is a great resource.

its not the place to go when you need something right away, but if you arent in a rush, keep your eye on fatwallet.

most of the deals are for computers and electronics, but there are plenty of other categories of stuff there to.

you need to be okay with using coupons and pricematching though. some deals take some work.

it is a very active forum and has a great search feature.

some deals i have gotten through fatwallet...

120gig hard drive for $19 AR (1 1/2 years ago)

dell 4550 2.4ghz p4 no monitor 128mb ATI Radeon video card for $320 shipped (3 years ago)

Logitech MX500 wireless optical mouse $18 AR (retail 1 1/2 years ago for $80)

17" LCD $120 (1 year ago)

17" Porsche Designed Samsung LCD $220 (3 years ago)

Entertainment Book - $5

20% some DJ store - saved $200

Logitech Computer speakers - $15 ($150 retail - 2 years ago)

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Audio Card - $free after rebate

St Louis Cardinal Authentic BP Jersey - $9

Canon S520 4mp Digital Camera - $175 (last week - retail is $299)

I can go on and on.....

You dont buy from Fatwallet, you find out where to buy.

They even have a cash back program where if you link through their site to on-line stores, you get cash back.

Buy.com is 3%
Staples 4%
etc

Computer Component Shopping
www.newegg.com newegg is the best. no one comes close with price and service
www.monarchcomputer.com
www.pricewatch.com <--- price index for almost everything you can buy for a computer.

Computer Product Reviews: so you can make sure what you're buying is sound
www.tomshardware.com
www.anandtech.com
www.xbitlabs.com

Audio Equipment.
www.americanmusical.com

www.mpsuperstore.com -- Pentax waterproof digital camera for $250 free UPS 2 day shipping. (it's $290 on newegg.com but the ppl at mpsuperstore always call and telemarket your ass to buy accessories for whatever product you bought.. MAD annoying and that factors out my next purchase at that site..)

www.directron.com (i think Sam linked me to this site) -- got my Acer flat screen for $220 including shipping.

www.amazon.com -- GRE study books ($11.00 brand new); CDs
Never had a problem with the amazon sellers sending me bad quality items. I trust this site way more than ebay (i got a good chunk o change stolen on ebay :/ so once bitten, twice shy)

i know there's more.. hmm...

www.half.com (ebay's other site- but purchase-only)

www.overstock.com (i'll look there for random stuff i might need- they have super cheap DVDs but a very small selection, nice bedding stuff! hehe)

oh, girls, here's some great sites that i personally enjoy:

www.hungrygirl.com --> good info on healthy And taste-good food
www.shefinds.com --> labels/designers on sale (not my cup of tea, but once in a while it's useful for a few items i may need or want)
www.dailycandy.com --> my favorite
www.alltherageonline --> cute, cheapie jewelry

Daily Candy is my fave bc they send out emails (daily, of course) with short, coyly-written articles about various things to do, places to go, unique products to buy, designer sample sales, vintage stores, salons to get your hair cut or your nails cut, etc, and lots and lots of travel articles...the other day they put out an article about the best swimming pools in the world (including links to all their locations.) lol i you not.. all their articles are hilarious.

for the love of the hawk =) you playa hating saturday huh? makes me sad! anyways

to the comment above...
eBay pretty much works on reputation, you check a sellers/buyer's past reputation to base their legitmacy on. so someone with alot of negative comments you should be wary of if you've bought from them or if they've bought from you. I've bought many items from ebay (say over 20-30items) but one key thing to remember is to look for items that you won't mind losing money on. like you certainly are not going to buy a $4k 56" LCD TV from ebay right? I can settle with being burned for $100 sure especially if I'm purchasing from someone with a decent credit line/reputation. Decent meaning top 96% positive feedback. So I weigh out my $100 loss verse the reputation and the item. I just bought a pair of exclusive sneakers (yes i've been collecting sneakers lately) from ebay for $110. Yes they could be fake, Yes they could not send it to me, Yes i could have gotten scammed, but you know what? that $110, plus that sellers reputation, plus the exclusive sneakers makes my loss of $110 worth it.

Bear in mind, that sellers with a long history/reputation of selling, have to "make payments" to ebay for posting their item. So yes in some form ebay does have their information and to some EXTENT claims can be made, but how far does that $110 take you. I mean ebay is great, there are scams all the time, but like almost everything when purchasing - BUYER BE WARE! A good shopper is a smart shopper. Just like I've been quoted as "sony-man" haha find me with an ipod - never! i don't buy into scams like ipod. hahaha

i hate buyers like you.

you should be branded with a non-payer tag for life and it should go against your credit history.

you should have decided BEFORE you made the purchase that it wasnt a good choice for you, not after. unless the seller did something dishonest in his/her listing you should have no outs.

can you tell I have been burned by buyers before?
