Christopher Lawrence is @ Spirit
J00F is at Avalon (20th and 6th Ave, former Limelight, etc. - They didn't close, just had management relocate)
I still don't know which I'll go to see if I go out. |

Avalon: Not Closing, Not Moving
August 01, 2005
In the rollercoaster industry of nightlife, constant change is a given. Bars open. Bars close. Bars reopen. Bars change management and change names.
And then there’s the case of Avalon’s "closing," which is wacky by even nightlife-biz standards.
The short version: Avalon is not closing. It’s not moving. Despite rumors, and even a NY Post story to the contrary, the club will have no interruptions to business.
According to the Thursday, July 14 edition of the NY Post, the New York City nightclub, which used to be the legendary Limelight, was indeed closing shop.
Then came the rumors that no, Avalon was not closing, but actually moving to nearby Spirit. According to this story—which was briefly published on Clubplanet.com—Avalon’s management, staff, and parties were all migrating to Spirit, with the new venue called “Avalon at Spirit.”
Later, it appeared that Avalon was staying open after all. But the "Avalon at Spirit" rumors persisted. What’s the deal?
Clubplanet caught up with Steve Adelman, co-owner of Avalon (the other is John Lyons), to set the record straight.
According to Adelman, on Wednesday, July 13, he had an internal conversation about potentially closing Avalon, temporarily, while the club conducted structural renovations that would allow it to host concerts in the future. The decision was not yet made.
That night, Adelman hopped on a flight to LA. Next thing he knew, the Post ran the story.
The story came as a surprise. Especially since they later decided not to close Avalon. “Even if we were closing, why would the owners tell that to the NY Post? It makes no sense.” Adelmain said.
Regarding the rumored move to Spirit, Adelman clarified, “There are only two people authorized to make decisions for Avalon. Myself and John Lyons. No one else. We’re not closing. We’re not moving.”
So there you have it.
