wooo... the scarborough crowd. you must feel so superior being part of the oakville crowd. |

i must admit that i think Scarborough gets a bad wrap. i noticed that there's a huge media bias when referring to that part of Toronto. We're talking about a district with relatively equal land area to Etobicoke, or North York, yet when something happens in the Malvern, Agincourt, Rouge Valley, etc. whatever region, it's always referred to under the 'Scarborough' umbrella, yet other parts of Toronto are referred to by their specific districts ie. Rexdale, JAne & Finch, Regent Park, St. JAmestown, etc. etc..
i lived in Scarborough most my life and i can attest that there are many parts of the city that are quite liveable and safe, yet the whole area gets a bad rap in the media. i feel sorry for all those homeowners who live in decent areas and are forced to deal with devaluating property due to the impression that people have about Scarborough in general.
how ironic that now i've moved outta Scarborough I find myself defending it.. anyways whatever i think Scarborough is damnned beyond recovery due to people like jayx1 who refer to it so broadly.

| then you get the people in malvern and rexdale complaining that their community is unfairly targeted. So maybe we should just stop reffering to where crime happens and instead refer to it as "somewhere in canada"? |

its not...and neither is scarborough. Many times i hear rexdale et al referred to as "etobicoke" or "the west end" as well. |

perhaps, and how often does that happen? 'Scarborough' is thrown around loosely in the news all the time. When that shooting happened at Victoria Park & Finch not once did they refer to the area as Chester Le from what I recall. I wouldn't even be surprised if most people here who have never lived in Scarborough even knew what Chester Le was. Yet I've never lived a day in North York (until just recently), Etobicoke, or in downtown Toronto yet i seem to be familiar with Rexdale, Jane & Finch, and Regent Park.
It seems that only Malvern is referred to as it's own district when it comes to crime in Scarborough. Why everything else is simply lumped together is beyond me.
here's a site by a bunch of people who maybe (do) believe that Scarborough is unfairly targetted:

wow there are actually various parts of Scarborough that not all share the same incidents of crime ..

And this is why Planet Vibe at the Phoenix used to be such a great event. They played an intelligent mix of hip hop and old school as well as disco and funk. Just look at the name "planet Vibe"..... hardly what you would call a night of hip hop today. Kind of shows you where hip hop has progressed doesnt it?
Planet Vibe has been an institution for 14 years. Too bad they had to thugafy it and ruin it. |
exactly.
I believe it was the longest running club night in the entire city...never had these types of problems before either, AFAIK.
sad. |
