Interesting question about "Dubs"

How do professional/well known DJs do "Dub" mixes?

My guess was that because they are well known DJs, they are able to get in contact with the original artists and ask for a version that doesn't have vocals and then just reaarange it a bit.

If not, how the fook do they remove the vocals if the song doesn't contain a section with just the vocals to sample?

with magic.

All remixers work with the original master, not some compressed mp3, silly.

They get all the 32 (or more) channels of the track. Many times for remixing they just get the various samples and loops. The Vocal's are always handed of as a single track, nothing else just plain vocals...like an accapella.

Yes, Crazy Bung-eyed genious indeed. :p

this question is funny, lol. infact i'm not really sure i understood it right as it seems far too obvious to be true

remixes are commissioned by the original artist/label, who send the seperate parts to the remixer. the remixer then makes their own track and adds selected parts in as they please. if it's a vocal track, the remixer may put out two versions.. one with the vocal and one without. and there you have it

just to highlight one point, they get the track IN SEPERATE PARTS.. they don't sample from the finished track complete with vocals (unless it's a dodgy bootleg job)
meneedit
so generally, the term bootleg when it comes to music, means that the remix wasnt official?
isoterra
yes

not just used for remixes though.. also for mashups (eg. putting accapellas over different tracks)

so,

If i wanna make a remix of say....

BT - Mercury and Solace...

then what would i have to do?

would BT be like... off n00b.... or would he just send it out to me, with very few questions....

ahhh... so u would have to be in good terms with the artist. You basically have to show that ur already a capable producer as well...

Makes sense.
