I’m looking to buy my first setup, going with CDJs off the bat instead of vinyl. I’m thinking about getting 1x CDJ200 and 1x CDJ800 since I am interested in learning to scratch a little and mix a little hip hop now and then. Is it worth learning to scratch and do this combination of CDJs or should I just stick with 2x CDJ200s and stick to trance/house/prog type of music.
What kind of mixer do you guys recommend/suggest besides the 707.
Some reassurance and direction would be helpful as DJing is a large investment. I am looking for a setup that is good enough quality, and will give room for improvement, while getting the most for your money. Thank you for your input and suggestions.
-CDJ 200 ($400)
-CDJ 800 ($600)
-DJM 707 ($280) or similar style
-HDJ 1000 ($150) or similar style |

| I got 2 cdj200s, a djm707, and a coffin case from road ready for $1000 off ebay, and finished it off with hdj1000's. No regrets at all. Spent less money than anyone I know with a comparable setup. |

i was thinking the same thing, it's cheaper than buying two 800's, since you're not going to scratch on both cd decks at the same time.
what's the pitch increments on the two decks though? |

For the CDJ 200 its:
"0.02% units (within a +/- 6% range)"
For the CDJ 800 its:
"with a 0.05% increment digital display (within a ±10% range)"
Will this difference in pitch increments be a problem? What other concerns should I be looking for, since they are not two of the same CDJs (meaning some variations in features). |

well i dont think the pitch increment would matter too much unless you can *perfectly* mix..unless you're sasha/digweed/zabs etc.
and ur not:p
but i dont think itll be too hard to correct any sort of pitch error...i would suspect that u would only need to turn the platter a couple of degrees unless ur trying to do some insane 3 min transition. |

First off, i would say that there shouldn't be any problems with that set-up since A your not gonna scratch with both hands (usually you are proficient with one or the other hand and not both) so it's a waste to buy to cdj-800s but then again you only save 200 bucks so i say just wait however long it takes to get two cdj's. Itll be easier too because if you wanna do tricks like doubling or chasing then you need identical sources because itll be way easier if the pitch changed. Also most of us here are from bay area...i say we should organize some sort of party here.
btw warmregards do you go to UConn |

| Thanx for the input. That would be cool to throw a part for Bay Area TAs. It would be nice to have a place where I could test out the different CDJs and mixers and what not before I buy, and get TA opinions. |

| if you live in frisco or can commute there then i would reccommend you test this stuff out at the dj stores here. San francisco is the best place for dj's of all types because there are countless record stores and theres like five places that sell dj equipment. Not to mention there are lots of members on these forums that are in the area too. If you want the namesof the stores then ill post them |

ur gonna hate going back and forth between teh platters. They are way different.
