Why? It dosent progress at all.

lol. good point.

i'd say illbient/industrial is the most progressive genre i've heard from edm.
Linden Flowers
Indeed. Industrial and connected genres like illbient, are probably the most avant-garde 'genres' there are in electronic music.

I've always thought the progressive label, like with progressive rock, progressive trance and house were the same. From stuff I've read, progressive rock is rock music that has added newer elements to it, like synths, jazz influences, classical influences, or world music influences. Just forward-thinking rock music, some like Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk that to me..isn't really "rock" music at all. Now from stuff i've read about progressive trance and house...it's built on progressive structures, and the music in itself progresses..as in changes over periods of time, doesn't remain the same. Correct me if i'm wrong about any of this...thanks...

It's all for marketing.

Maybe not to you...if you don't get it now, you probably never will.

Explain to me then, Fire999, what is progressive? Because it sounds equilivent to that of a piledriver.

Isn't it obvious?? Progressive builds. That is, if the right records are mixed. Progressive sounds best when it builds up to trance. Good trance.

Don't bother. I'd say this thread is clearly meant to stir up trouble and little else.
