best vsti/au specifics?

I know there is a list of the best VSTi's/AU's for trance, but is there a list that is more specific? I couldn't find one like this:

For instance,

best vsti/au for bass

best vsti/au for strings/atmospheres

best vsti/au for leads

best vsti/au for effects

sample CDs/banks/sampler for percussion

....

I know that some would be included in more than one, but does this exist somewhere?

And I want to thank alanzo for making "The Best Trance VST/AU SoftSynths of 2005" thread. That is very helpful! Thank you!

Hey. Such a list would all be opinion. It all depends on what type of sound you are looking for. I could make a strings patch simply by changing the release on an ultra fat bass patch or use a very similar FM strings preset to get a punchy bass. Some synthesis techniques are better than others to achieve certain sounds and fatness but for the most part, its all in how you program the synth and the quality of the synth.

Cheers,
Zac

hey Dark Sword, thanks for your reply. I guess you're right. It would be more of a list of technicalities and theory than an issue of instruments used...

my opinion

best vsti/au for bass
i like vanguard, it can crunch out some nice basses, my favorite bass i made with pro-53..

best vsti/au for strings/atmospheres
vanguard has some pretty decent strings/pads in the factory preset, can do alot.. pro-53 is also capable of cranking some lush pads

best vsti/au for leads
i love z3ta+ v.1.4.. it has a real nice sound and also pretty decent filters.. reaktor 5 with rb2k1's supersaw is also a great one.. havent had the pleasure of trying out v2 yet, but i will on wedensday ;O

best vsti/au for effects
i use samples for this, but Motion 2.6 can make some pretty awesome sounds..

sample CDs/banks/sampler for percussion
vengeance essential clubsounds vol 1.. i dont think i would get in an arguement by saying this is by far the best for trance atm.. altho Icone's drum sample cd sounds promising as well... prolly a bit cheaper as well.. :P z3ta+ can churn out some class drums as well imo

best vsti/au for bass
I heard Triangle II was good for bass, I have it, but I never really experimented with it. I always use the 3xOSC for my bass :p

best vsti/au for strings/atmospheres
I'm gonna have to go with Crystal.

best vsti/au for leads
I don't really know, I haven't really tried too many. I use the Superwave P8 for big supersaw leads. So i'm gonna go with that.

best vsti/au for effects
I can't really comment on this either sorry.

I'm new to producing and this is what i use to get by:

Bass:

Hypersonic, Vanguard, Bass Station

Strings/Pads:

Pro 53, V-Station, Vanguard

Lead:

z3ta+, Vanguard or V-Station

Effects:

Samples
Derivative
i really dislike vanguard now. darksword is pretty much right. any list is just a personal opinion though. reason i dont like vanguard is because it aliases so much and i find theres very few sounds i can make out of it where it doesnt audibly do this. even if you select the non aliasing oscillators (which still alias loads, just not as much) the difference is minimal.
