dont just go buying juno 106s on the off. 106s are notorious for their dodgy voice chips. manufacturing cost cutting is probably the reason for it but one of the voice chips on the 106 burns out pretty easily and it results in a weird problem whereby every 5th or 6th note doesnt sound and where you never get 6 note polphony.

it plagues this synth although - doesnt happen with the juno 60 which sounds better and its better built but lacks the unison on the 106 if you can believe that.

if you buy 106s off ebay or wherever ask about the voice chip and ask them to hold down 6 notes slowly to see if the last one doesnt trigger. course, they could lie about it. but many 106s in circulation that look in good condition and sell for cheap usually have this burnt out voice chip problem. you can buy replacement voice chips (they arent that expensive) but fitting them doesnt come cheap and they are in extremely limited supply.

One of my favourite synths ever- but use caution as mentioned above- some dodgy examples about. remember, they are upwards of 20 years old now!
Chips are available but vary widely in price- it is a surprisingly common problem. It caught me out once too- got a new chip from the states for not many $.

Absolutely fantastic synth- juno 60 with a midi->cv/gate box (get one from kenton) would work out cheaper and almost as good.

they also send out sysex data- not control change data...that may or may not be a problem for you depending on how you work.

Have PM'd you.

digital screams over at the virus forum reckons the juno 60 sounds better than the 106. ive heard a 106 but not a 60. DS is a total analogue head though so id probably take his word for it before mine. the big thing thats missing on the 60 is unison and midi, which the 106 does have.

juno 60 looks alot better and is supposed to be much better built. but thats pretty much the extent of what i know.

they arent vastly different to be honest.

Both sound amazing

I was thinking about getting a Juno D...

When I sampled it at guitar center it was kind of lacking, but I didn't have time to really dive into it.

When I think of the older versions, I think of cheese 80s sounds. It can create sick swarms though, and rips through a mix.

Does the Roland MKS-7 have the same issue with the dodgy voice chips? because if im not mistaken thats the same as a Juno 106.

hard to find thou...
