I'm sure some of you have seen the trailer to the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose and if you haven't, here's the link:

I know there have been topics on Emily Rose before but this one is more about the movie The movie that is coming out is based on the true story of Emily Rose. When a movie says it's "based on a true story", how much of the story is it actually based on? The movie the Exorcist was also based on a true story but I think that alot of what happened was exaggerated. I know that movie studios do this so it will be more appealing to the audience, but does it actually take away from the truth of the story? Do any of you think this movie will over exaggerate what actually happened? |

well, I'd say that about..ummm 40% of the story might be true. As you said it yourself, they tend to say that the story is based on a true story to catch people and says wow..that really happened, I should see this movie but yeah, most of the paranoid stuff is said to be based from a true story......
so again, 30-40% max....they deform a lot of things i guess to fit in a 2 hour long movie and not to make things complicated... |

literally, i think this movie will be too scary for me.
i had to second guess my decision to watch White Noise, although it was rather tame compared to the trailer |

That or he is alot like me.
Visual effects, audio engineering, and actors do not a movie make. Those thing are important, but if the story is weak, it's hard to sit through the inanity and enjoy the movie. Just because the film sets new limits of fantastical gore or has well palced audio effects to make you jump doesnt meant that it's worth going nuts over.
This movie looks like it could be good, but exorcism films have been done several times, neither first nor last by The Exorcist. There may be a few unexpected twists and turns, but you've got to imagine you could outline the plot right now.
Then again, George Bush did win the American vote by pandering to the Catholic/Christian belief. If there are that many in America then this story with a traditional American religious background should be a hit. However, for me, you've got to throw more at me than digital effects or a hollywood monkey writer's team script to wow me with your movie.
Additionally, I can't believe this movie is only rated PG-13. It just is another example of how the rating scale has changed here in America; This would have been Rated-R 10-15 years ago. And, as others have said, the term 'Based on a True Story' can be extremely stretched. I would guess no more than 20% of this is real.
Tangentally I ing hate quicktime and sites that use it, whether it's Apple's site or aplz' site. |

No, you have to look at specialties. Every country has a type of film they're good at.
USA - Comedies
Europe (I know, it's a continent, but still) - Dramas
Japan - Horror |
