I'm wondering what type of stick I need to put into my mother board. I'm planning on buying 1gb of it. How much are 1gb sticks anyways?

First you need to find out what type of ram does your motherboard suport, There are some programs that can tell you specifically the type of ram you have, Theres a program I use that tells you all about your motherboard plus even monitors your fan rpm and tempature, You can download it right here.

Roger that. RAM is not RAM. You need the right type for your motherboard and processor. Need to see how many slots on your mb as well. Folks normally buy 512 sticks and not 1G. You probably don't even need that much RAM to begin with. RAM will not cure low processor speed. You might be able to upgrade a PCU chip and increase RAM at the same time to get better performance. Once again, it all depends on capability of your motherboard in PCU speed and RAM.

It's best to find a geek somewhere and ask him to look at your system.

I'm on an AMD athalon64 3300+.

I have 512mb of ram. I was going to buy a gig because runing about 4 vsts layered with effects eats up about 65% of my cpu.

I'm downloading that program you posted as we speak.
