i have an AMD antlon xp 2200 processor...lately its been showing up as only being 1500?? any idea how this could of happened? i tried to simply go into the bios settings and select "best setting" but that didn't help...anyone who may know how to correct this problem, it would be greatly appreciated...thanx

By selecting "Optimized defaults" you might have resetted the clock frequencies for your CPU. Check that the multiplier and clock frequencies are correct.
I'm almost sure that's the problem.
Project 7
go into your bios and find something that says 100mhz/133mhz/166mhz, select 133mhz so then it will show up as as a 2200xp

if not have a look at your motherboard manual and it should say something to do with a jumper for selecting these

sorted!

Also, if you have DDR RAM and you select the wrong CPU Clock ratio, it may "detect" the CPU as having a different clock.

kick it, nah, personally id check ur motherboard maual, however it may say 1500 9x outta 10 it still runs at the same speed.

sounds like changing 100mhz/133mhz/166mhz would affect your MoBo bus speed :toothless

theres a CPU mulitplier switch in there somewhere .. maybe toggle that up a notch until your CPU shows the previous speed.

Make sure you dont overclock it (i.e. make it run faster than before) or you can kiss you CPU goodbye :stongue:
Subtle
ur "cooler" could be dusty.. meaning it doesnt cool so much, making the CPU going at a safe clock speed to prevent damage.. try cleaning out ur fan...

Yeah yeah! But what do we do without it?

I realized today... I can do without a Windows PC! I then need:

One Mac for all my multimedia needs (GFX, Flash, Music etc.)
One Linux box for all my dev. needs (Java, C++, PHP, HTML etc.)

That's "all" I need! :-P If I get filthy rich i'll buy myself a Mac, and install Linux on my current PC. I just hope I know how to program good drivers by then! :-P

An XP2200+ only runs at 1.48ghz I think. Where does it "show" up as being 1500? If you click "control panel->system" it should show as

XP2200+
1.43ghz

Or something.

I have a socket 939 3000+ and it only runs at 1.81ghz:cool:

you shouldn't try to teach people things if you don't know anything about the subject :p

unless you increase the vcore (that is the voltage on the processor basicly) you won't suffer much heat penalty, 1 or 2 degrees celsius at the most.

now back to the subject, it's either the multiplyer or the fsb that's been reset somehow and the only way to fix it is to venture into your bios and find the settings for them.
btw. is it a barton or a Throughbread?
