Artists from which a Greatest Hits actually works

And ones it doesn't work for.
Works:
Faithless - because they have some incredible track, but a LOT of filler on their albums. Greatest hits essentially takes away all the bad stuff, leaving only the stuff you listen to.
Underworld - Their production is very uneven, and some tracks are just nasty. Their comp has all the best tracks.
Doesn't work:
Juno Reactor - since all of their albums have a lot of great tracks, you'd only end up buying them anyway.

I tend to disagree on both Underworld and Faithless.. Especially Faithless have made so many good tracks, it would be impossible for me to select just 13 or 14 for a single 'Best Of' CD.
When you're only into their more danceable stuff though, I can see your point.
Can't really think of an accurate example for myself at the moment. |

I don't know. To me it just emphasises how much better some of their stuff is compared to the weaker stuff. Plus Dubnobasswithmyheadman works great all the way through, but taken apart it's not so strong.

A bit biased really. I'd say it doesn't work because their singles are exactly the same as the album material, so there's no concentration of quality.
To me, Greatest Hits don't work on more album-concentrated artists, because there's so much you'll miss, and tracks usually work better within their respective albums.
Where the singles are of a different style, of higher quality or the producer just doesn't make many albums, Greatest Hits are pretty essential. |

I bet you do.
2,4,5,7,8,9 on the first album.
1,2,3,4,6,9,10 on the second.
Rest I haven't heard. These are fillers to me personally... your opinions may vary. |

That's exactly it. If you like the singles, you will like the album material too - thus it doesn't work. |

Perhaps Paul van Dijk?
Then again, you end up with one tune on your cd...... |
