Sad epic trance. Stuff which makes you believe that those feelings in the pit of your stomach are gonig to come true, that the world will end.

Sad trance never makes me sad, it just helps to embrace some of what I am feeling; it brings it out in the open so I can deal with it and get past it. It has always let me feel settled when the world is not treating me properly.

DUDE! Yes. Exactly YES! Well this would still probably take a back seat to classic epic euphoric melodic and vocal trance, the kind of trance you speak of, "sad trance" is a damn close 2nd! REALLY CLOSE!

Right now, my ABSOLUTELY FAVOURITE kind of trance like that has gotta be

Bossanova - Stonecold

Have you heard this track! It's bloody insane - very moving! It's gotten me through some tough times the way you said. I use trance for that exact same purpose too!

:toothless ing good to see someone else who understands.

LONG LIVE VOCAL CHEESY TRANCE!

I love singing alone... it can completely add to the experience of the song - really depends on the melodies... :)

One of the funnest memories at the Cottage Party was singing along and just BELTING OUT the lyrics of Shivers with the ppl who were upfront with me rigth infront of the DJ booth!

That was a bloody insane moment! I was so into it!!!

Maybe if you got in a time machine, and went back four years.

No hi-jacks warranted, this is tranceaddict and I should probably hang my head shame but trance these days is so horrible it makes me want to jump out a window. (maybe the window in my little house) hah

With all respect you're entitled Jon even if it's your opinion that's four years ago.

This silly backlash against trance is quickly dying with more and more people hearing the brilliant stuff that's coming out on labels like Electronic Elements, Baroque, Oxygen and even A State of Trance... the only people that make comments like yours are the ones with preconceived notions from four years ago that you won't find at any current trance events anyway.

Watch artists like Andy Moor, Matthew Dekay, Markus Schulz, Jon O'Bir and Sander van Doorn tear it up in the next couple of years then come back and tell me that progressive and tech trance is four years ago. Why then is Marco V consistently one of the most in demand djs year after year if progressive and tech-trance is passe?

Take it from someone who's listened to trance every day of their life for almost a decade and is VERY discerning with their taste in trance; (no cheese allowed!) there has never been a better variety of intelligent, thick and authentic trance... from the deep stuff to the techy stuff even to the peaktime stuff.

Give it a try and you may change your tune. (no pun intended)

i get mad at it, because i feel i get teased by the melody and it just never fully releases itself. But a few tracks here and there are good to change things up.

Tech trance for sure... it's the only genre of trance I could actually see myself rocking to in a club.

The others are too airy for my tastes.

The only trance I can still tolerate for a whole set is the dark, angry, spooky music that started the whole trance scene. Before 2000 it was the stuff from producers like X-Cabs and De Niro, now it's sorta been carried on by Transa, Nuw Idol, Skynet, etc. As far as I know, the only dude with "international" status still spinning this is Christopher Lawrence.

Please note: I am NOT talking about hardstyle (fartstyle) or any of the bastardized versions of techno that call themselves trance (i.e. "tech trance"). These genres take some of the worst elements of trance (the boring rhythmic organization) and combine it with the worst elements of the other genres (repetitiveness and lack of melodies). Not enjoyable to listen to, and not danceable either.

Some of the newer progressive trance with very strong house and/or breaks influences is good too, but that's because it's barely even trance anymore.

Of course he's in demand, but I could list 10 House/ Prog DJ's who are a lot more in demand these days.

Tiesto has to be the MOST in demand, who cares. haha Since when does popularity dictate standard of excellence. In fact I think the mainstream cultural acceptance of a DJ could be the first clue in yes establishing them as passe.

This thread wasn't meant to be a trance vs. prog/house/tribal/electro debate... trance will always have a place in our scene (our hearts as well bahah) but quite frankly it would be hard to deny it's recent stagnation.
