Ok time for the review!
Well where do i start?
I flew out the day after working all night at WEMF. I don't know how i made it to the airport! I flew out to London where i had a 6 hour stop over which gave me just enough time to take the train up to Teddington and meet up with an old friend for lunch and then return to gatwick to catch my flight out to Thessaloniki Greece.
Got to greece and was greeted by 2 good friends of mine who came down from macedonia to get me and immediately went to the coast. Spent a few days on the northern greek coast and then went back to Macedonia where we chilled at my friend's place for a few days.
Finally decided for sure that we were going to Bulgaria so we loaded up the car and put in out $1.60 a litre gas and off we went on the 14 hour drive (with no A/C!!!). It was quite the interesting drive through the mountains. WHo knew you (and everyone else) could go 140 km.h on windy mountain 2 lane roads and survive?
I also got to bribe my first official. The bulgarian customs woman hinted at a bribe even though my papers were in order so i gave her €5. I told her thats all i had since i had credit cards. ahahahah. stupid woman.
We finally get to Sunny Beach and decide on a hotel. We picked a 4 and a half star for €65 a night which was for 3 people. Pretty cheap considering it was also a brand new hotel. What we didnt plan on though was that a convention of mobsters were also staying at our hotel. The whole front parking lot was nothing but indentical looking, black, tinted mercedes. Pretty freaky !
My friends had been to Sunny Beach before so they knew a lot of the local DJs. So we met up with them and they informed us that Eddie Richards was playing at a club called mania on the friday and that Josh wink and Omid 16B were on the beach on Saturday. Needless to say we were smiling ear to ear at that point.
The beach was amazing. Not as picturesque as greece but a lot more young people. Lots of women!! Mostly in thongs and nothing else! It was briliant! There was also a nude beach but sadly for every good looking girl there there were about 30 fat german guys with no pants on. :nervous: :nervous:
The one thing that has got to go in Europe is male speedos. I think we were pretty much the only guys wearing trunks. Some were even wearing thongs! YUCK! PUT THAT AWAY!!!

Anyways the beach club at Cacao was amazing. White couches and a Dj playing right on the beach. Really upfront tunes too. You could hear the music across the whole beach. The most amazing part was that NO ONE WAS COMPLAINING! I even saw old people tapping their feet to electro house as they were lying in the sun and relaxing! There were women in thongs next to 7 year old children and no one got hurt! Unbelievable!
This beach club was great. Sometimes it was packed and sometimes it was dead but either way youd always find at least one or 2 people dancing to the music. No one was self concious about it. They just heard a good song and danced. End of story.
So the big beach party was held right in front of Cacao Beach club. They used the club itself as the VIP area (which you paid $10 CDN more to access). In front was a massive stage complete with a huge sound system, visuals screen and appx 25 Mac 250 and Mac 500 lights. The party started at midnight and was well underway around 1:30. All i can say is Omid 16 B played AMAZING! Everything from house, to tech, techno... u name it. SImply amazing! I had one smirnoff ice all night. Other than that it was all red bull and music for me! I noticed too that most of the crowd was drinking. There were a few waste cases in the morning but more from drunkness than being high.
At about 5 am Omid is done his set and the local DJ goes back on. At this point we are wondering "where the hell is josh wink?". The rumours are starting to float around and the sun is coming up. No Josh Wink! All of a sudden you see security fan out across the front of the crowd as if they are getting ready for a riot. Im thinking "this cant be good". Suddenly at about 6:15 am Josh wink appears on stage and the crowd goes absolutely nuts. He played a 45 min set due to his lateness but the crowd was loving it and gave him the biggest applause ever at the end of the night. At which point he encored with the original version of higher state of conciousness at which point the crowd went absolutely ape!
Apparently there were storms over the mountains and he wasnt able to get a flight from Sofia (the capital) to the beach. So they drove him down instead which was a 6 hour drive.
Anyways the next afternoon Josh wink played a 4 hour set at the beach club to about 500 people. It was completely off the hook! He played amazing detroit style techno, house, and lots of classic josh wink acid and breaks. Omid 16B closed off the evening and played some more sick house and tech. Myself and my macedonian friends were going crazy. Amazing crowd (no sketch), a beach full of people, amazing world class music and amazing vibe. After Omid ran over to us and hugged all three of us and said "you guys are amazing, you know your , incredible"....
I asked him when he will be in Toronto and he said probably december.
It was such a refreshing change to be in a place where people came for fun and fun only. No attitude, no dumb laws, no crazy whacked out sketchballs, no old women complaining about loud music. And you could drink all night! (maybe thats partly why there werent nearly as many drugs?)
Oh yeah, and lots of whistles!! LOTS OF THEM! And it made it even more fun! |

That party looks like a in blast. Awesome music, awesome people, beautiful place=real fun time.
Around New Years & the 2 weeks after I will be in Chile, and will definately be hitting up my first international DJ events. I will be going with several Chilean friends who talk to all the Tranceaddicts down there on the Internet on trance.cl , and they said to expect VIP Treatment. Appearently Tiesto, PVD, Armin, Ferry, Cosmic Gate, and Infected Mushroom like playing there in their summer ( most of those events are outdoors also ), but I will go to any big event there. I will have to post the pictures here on TOTA, which is also the most intresting local forum on Tranceaddict. |

Argentina also has a great scene. You should make your way to Buenos Aires and the coast if you can. Ive been there a few times. |

I'm actually thinking of making a side trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil; or may'be Argintina. The flight shouldn't cost too much, and it may be my only chance to see either one of those places. |

i think the round trip flight to buenos aires from santiago is $99 US, or at least it was when i was there. Check with aerolineas argentinas or LanChile. I think Air Canada, Air France, and American also do runs on that route.
If you need any advice on Argentina let me know.. i lived there for awhile.
Hint: Punta Del Este uruguay is expensive but fun as hell! |
