Scary Moment...

So, about a year and a half ago, I'm out at a bar for a friends 21st birthday, when, after 1 drink (Whiskey Old Fashioned) & 1 shot (Jameson), I became incredibly warm, and felt way more ed up than I should have been. I try to make it back to the table we're all at (My friends parents included, one of whom is a doctor) and as soon as I make it back, I just get tunnel vision, and everything fades to black. I hit my head on a glass on the table and the next thing I remember is waking up outside being asked what I had taken on top of drinking...

After explaining what happened and getting checked out, it was determined that what happened was a quote "hypoglycemic incident" where basically I hadn't eaten well throughout the day, ate too much or something, my blood sugar would rise quicker than it's supposed to for some reason, and my body would overproduce insulin to compensate, shooting my blood sugar straight to the ground and causing me to pass out for a few moments.

Since that happened, it's happened 2 other times, the 3rd time being tonight...

I had not eaten incredibly well today, which isn't to say I hadn't at all, just looking back it wasn't much, and it wasn't spaced out well over the course of the day. I went out for a cig around 11:30, and when I got up to come back in I felt a wave of dizzyness and nausea rush over me. I got back into my apartment and I was sweating bullets and my vision began to tunnel on me. Thinking that I knew what was happening I went to the couch, but it just kept getting worse, I finally went to lay on the ground and the last thing I remember before everything went black I was hearing the end segment of Attack of the Show (I know, lame, but it's the only way I can mark time) around midnight. The next thing I remember is coming to, shaking like crazy, sprawled out on the living room floor, to the replay of AOTS that comes on at 2AM, and I'm still real shaky right now.

When all this happens, it's like for a few minutes I feel kind of a tingle rush all over my body, and I start to sweat a lot. My vision starts to get wavy, and slowly tunnels on me until wave of total black comes over, sounds start to get distorted, and I get really weak, to the point I can't even hold myself up and I'm completely out of control of my body. If anyone has ever done nitrous, the feeling is kind of like that, except it lasts longer, and is completely unexpected & you're completely out of control, so it's in' scary... When I come to, I'm usually super weak and it definitely takes me a while to figure out what's going on, and what just happened.

I don't really know where I'm going with this, I guess I'm just a little freaked out right now. I know what just happened isn't the worst thing ever, and it's basically my own damn fault because I know how to avoid it, but some days I just get so wrapped up in the I want to get done, and something like this just knocks me over the head...

Ahhhh... it's 3AM and you need to get something off your chest, where do you go? The CORe... thanks kids... sorry about the somewhat "emo" thread...

Peace,

Rob

Glad to hear you're okay now. But you should take care of yourself. And don't worry, anything is welcomed this late at night as far as topics go.

You need to get your blood checked from time to time, I have diabetes and it sounds like your blood sugar is going crazy. I get that way when I do not eat and my level gets below 80. I start sweating bullets, shaking and the whole tunnel vision as well. I always carry a piece of candy with me just in case that happens. Until you get checked out I suggest you always eat something on a regular basis. Carry some jolly ranchers around in the car. When that happened to me I freaked out. Be carefull and get your blood sugar tested at a clinic or Dr. to make sure you are not in the initital stages of diabetes. I thought I was too young and active to get it, but it can strike anyone.
I pretty much licked it now, by bieng more active, eating right and taking care of myself.

Take care

Yeah, I've been checked out once already, but the doctor seemed to kind of shrug it off and tell me just to eat right... so frustrating... especially when this morning after a decent nights rest I can still feel pretty in' shaky...

remember that 50% of doctors finished at the bottom of their class ;) get a second opinion. Its important.

Eat well and often and when you cant keep some candy on you to chew on to keep your blood sugar up. I know people with the same problem they just carry around tons of sweets and eat them whenever they feel weak or dizzy. If you drive dont get behind the wheel if you are even slightly dizzy. If you start feeling a black out coming on get to the nearest seat. You should go to the Dr. and talk to him abiut the condition. I am sure he can give you more tips prevent this from occuring in the future.
