with your car having 250k miles that's about analagous to telling your 85 yr old grandmother to start wearing sunscreen to avoid getting wrinkles

this is false information.

lower octane does not damage the engine unless the engine was designed and specified to use supreme gas. this is in relation to compression. if your engine is a low compression motor, 87 octane is just fine. any higher than that and you're just wasting money and depositing carbon in your engine.

first thing i myst say is to go to your local auto parts store and go to the books area and look for the book on your car. This book will be around 20 bucks but it will pertty much how to take the whole thing apart and put it back togeather again. 2nd as soon as you get it .. change the oil and filter, the air filter, prob all belts and hoses, and drain and flush the coolent. 3rd.. find out when the last time a timing chain or belt was put on the car if its been more than 80k miles get a new one. Also need to know when spark plugs were last put in, again if its been a while bet new ones. If its automatic should prob also flus the trans fluid (take this and get in done will set you back a few but worth it). Also change the fule filter, the book i wrote above will tell you how to do this. Later down the road you will need to save up and have new shocks and struts put in, that is if it hasnt been done in a while. I think that is about it...... good luck..
