deckz if only we could all be so lucky. i know nobody that understands or even listens to trance. out in sydney's west especially around where i live there is only one type of music rap r&b hip hop and the likes. ok thats more than one. when ppl ask me what music do you listen too i say trance and then their faces go blank. it is really bad, needs more exposure cause its so expensive to get imports nowadays.:)

Frankly i don't care what ppl think of trance........i'm addicted to it and i love it........so ppl can kiss my ass as far as i'm concerned. We got the trance wannabes in toronto......toronto is a HUGE eurodance/freestyle city besides the real clubbers who like to see big name trance deejays.

Don't feel bad man,Trance refers to different genre in every country.
Here in Israel for example people reffer to Trance as Goa, astral projection and Infected mushroom for once are considered as Trance... go figure :whip:

Ok, I didn't read all of the posts, but I read some of them....

Look at it this way guys... Who cares if no one knows what it is.... Honestly, it doesn't really matter.. Personally, I like it better that way... it keeps us unique... and prevents the evil of mainstream corruption. Look at the world of mainstream. Corrupted by money, popularity, fame, etc. Its terrible, and sickening... Lets keep this "underground", lets keep it where its at now.... It will be devastating for this to become as popular as you see on American MTV.

We are unique.. We've found a type of music, not too many know of.... kinda like a treasure... lets keep it to ourselves... once everyone starts getting a hold of it, it starts to things up.......

If someone doesn't know what "trance" is, thats their loss...really...

If you want to spread the music, go ahead.... but you really shouldn't get upset if someone doesn't know what it is....once again, its their loss, and their ignorance is bliss....

Daytime radio stations here (especially the dance ones) like to play the top cheeze trance songs during the day and it drives me up the wall because it's this type of music people now associate all type of trance to be. ARG!!

you're lucky. here in boston we don't have ANY dance radio stations. the only 3 electronic songs that you could ever hear on a radio are sandstorm, castles in the sky, and something by alice deejay. whenever one of them is on i feel stupid, caz c'mon, people, they're old cheese, get over it! it really does set stereotype for people who don't know the real deep trance.

absolutely, there's like a major point right there. once trance becomes mainstream, we cannot appreciate it for its uniqueness and originality. why do I listen to trance? not only because i like it, but because with trance i can be an individual and different; i do not blindly follow what the music industry feeds me, i choose for myself. with mainstream music you can't be and individual. do you really think all the britney spears fans really understand what POP is? at least some of the trance listeneners know its real meaning and can truly appreciate the artist's work. at least trance has a meaning :toothless

i walk into class with my cd player, and the student says, what u listining to let me hear, he listens and says "OOO TECHNO" and im like so pissed people dubbing trance as techno is just going to far even from the ignorance of common folk. i get bombarded and have to listen to stuff like dmx and jayz during my study hall......stupid boomboxes...

and on the early announcemets they put up an alice deejay song and there like, OH MY DID U HEAR THE TECHNO ON THE ANNOUNCEMENTS??!?
tranStreemAdmin
sorry for the double post, but as SportTrance said, we have a hidden treasure hear. Yet a genre that can be symphonic, yet exiting, and hard bassed at the same time, but all being introduced by soothing melodies and dramatic climaxes. What other genre is yet be known for its classics and most cherish hits, that one could be a female voice seranating to a enchanting melody and the other that boasts volume pumping floor vibrating sounds....

Why do you think anyone knows trance in Greece? I was sick of listening to tech-house and goa trance all summer.

While it's true that trance isn't the electronica flavor of choice in Greece (and in the UK if I'm not mistaken) at the moment things aren't that bad. +Soda even spawned a brand new club (CT Plus) to cater for trance, besides its Sunday nights. Let me set the picture, though..

Progressive is currently favored here, with DJs like John Digweed, Sasha, Steve Lawler, Deep Dish, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg, Max Graham, Darren Emerson, etc. appearing at least once during the past few months. Techno is an also-run, thanks largely to U-Matic that brought over DJs like Jeff Mills and Dave Clarke lately (Sven Vath also appeared at Plastic about two months ago). Finally, House is an all-time favorite (David Morales seems to spend more time here than anywhere else in the world, for example :stongue: ). The list of other top House DJs that have been here recently (or are expected in the next few weeks) includes Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Knuckles, Lottie and Smokin Jo.

And what about Trance? Well, Paul Oakenfold headlined a dance festival back in September, Yahel came by (at +Soda) about a month ago and that's it. Although a scene does exist, things are mostly stuck at the psy era, therefore. Who's to blame? Organizers or clubbers? I can't really tell. Psy is still Trance, anyways.

Like over here housemusic is pretty mainstream, allthough not everybody knows the difference between the various styles of house music,
but that's ok cause there are like 50 of em!
But being mainstream has both positive and negative sides to it.
Negative is definitely the commercialisation factor.
Tons of wannabe trance stuff is released everyday, ranging from cheap cd's to dumb ass productions like AliceDJ.(Yeah, guess where they're from!?)
You get spoiled very easily if Tiesto or Armin spins in your town twice a month and in the town next door also 2 times(<-- Ha!that's btw an AliceDj tune)
(Like last week; Tiesto spun literary in my own street, a 5 min walk, I didn't even bothered to go over and check him out, because i've seen him now like 6 times this year, see what i mean with spoiled.)
You have to buy your tickets sometimes a month in advance, especially for the large party's like InnerCity,DanceValley and stuff.
Ticket prices are going over the top each year.
Raves attract a lot of wankers, who are not there for the music but are just looking for trouble.
Positive being it breeds lot's of quality dj's because so many people are into it now for such a long time.
Huge and small party's get thrown all the time, more then you can ever visit.
The possibility to see the world's best spinners on a regular basis.
The music is everywhere, if you know where to look for it, party's are broadcasted on tv and radio channels.
So what is the best?
I think it both has it's charm, but ask yourself this, what would you prefer; keeping the treasure of trance to yourself and go now and then to a good small "underground" party far away or hearing 40000 people chear as Marco V spins G.O.D.D. which he made especially for that set, the bassline blasts out of the enormous speakerwalls, the lasers and coloured lights beam full on through the huge hall and when you get home you download the set from inet and tape the coverage from the telly to watch and hear it over and over again.
Guess you know my answer............

Geia sou Vaggeli!
Another Greek Tranceaddict! Cool.
I know exactly what you are saying and that's what I said in another thread(that things are showing some imoprovement in Greece) BUT Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Knuckles, Lottie and Smokin Jo?
Who the are they?
I'm sorry if I should know them but I don't.
Progressive is OK but it doesn't do it for me. I was there when Deep Dish and Oakenfold played in Athens. And I must say I prefered Deep Dish but nothing spectacular here. (Max Graham though should be good! did you go?)
As for David Morales being in Greece all the time that is bad for me friend. Things are definetely not improving this way.
Now Yahel IS encouraging but we need more of uplifting stuff don't we?
As for the UK trance may not be the biggest thing but I can't complain a bit. It is big.
Everyone I ever wanted to see I did (well almost) and without having to go more than 2 miles away:
Ferry Corsten, DJ Scot Project, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Signum, Airwave, Mauro Picotto, Taucher and more..

How can I go back to Greece now?!!!!!!

Noone will understand the significance of my accomplishments!!

:( :(

The Greek
hmm i never have any complaints when i go to greece for the summer i think they have a much better selection of tracks on the airwaves as well as in the record shops than here in nyc. also, it is true that they like alot more psy trance there but hey i always considered psy trance to be even more underground than the stuff we listen to here in tranceaddict, so its "all good" hehe. what i have the biggest complaint about here in nyc is that the people that do know something about this music always call it house. "yea i listen to house music" despite the fact that ive told them maybe about 1000 times that "youre listening to trance you fool." i really think that clubs have a big part of the blame for this because ive seen it on FLYERS. that pisses me off, stuff like "(dj's name) spinning progressive house" and then i go and its bonafide trance. thats the only thing that sort of bothers me. :)
