hes right you know. Orient means eastern occident means western. its only insulting if youre stupid enough to take the entire eastern portion of the largest cultural continent on earth and lump it as asians. Its the same reason South Americans and MesoAmericans hate only US being called Americans. Cultural identities mean a lot to people and to sit there and base it off anything other than cultural distinctions, you get into a sticky wicket. |

You've enevr stepped up for someone only to have them lash out at you for defending them rather than defending themselves?
Living in the midwest, I've seen black people lash out at white people for defending them against traditional hillbillies using racial slurs. The rationale is that your defense of them makes them feel like they can't defend themselves, or cant create or assume the cultural identity of their choice. If you've never witnessed thisd pheonomenom, it does seem to be chance and decided on an individual factor.
In other words, I'm not talking about offending someone who has made an incorrect statement. Im talking about offending some by (and while) trying to defend them. |
