I have not heard about many of the films being played, but there is only one that i want to see:

WALLACE & GROMIT!!!!

The shorts are classics, and I'm a sucker for animated films, especially stop and go photography.

I guess I have to try and get tix soon...

Most movies I wanted to see are now sold out. I'm trying to get tickets for SgtFoo and myself to see Wallace and Grombit or Revolver.

You can order tickets online or do rush -- which is wait outside when the movie is playing and hope to heck you're near the front of the line and that there are extra seats available.

Gala - used for the movies playing at Roy Thompson Hall, only certain films

Regular - I think this is all for the "rush" tickets

Maverick - Canadian films? I'd check the TIFF site and look under what "maverick" films are considered.

Lucky all of you! I'm dying to get tickets to see Viggo Mortensen's A History of Violence this year at the Film Festival. I'd skip school to go see it.

I saw the trailer before a movie earlier this summer and pracically salivated with the thought of a good, interesting twisted plot.

Can I beg/plead/pout for someone to either get me tickets or just be really really sweet/kind/considerate and tell me when they go on sale for one screening and how much they are?

I can probably help you out....But not until it opens in wide release after the film festival. The movie is set to open in Toronto on Sept. 23rd, so that probably means they'll have an advance screening on the 22nd....It sounds like you're dying to see it before then, but if you don't, feel free to message me closer to that date and I'll see if I can hook you up.

This is a splendid idea but just bad timing for me. I'll have to wait another year!?!?!?!

I will do that... thank you... I think can wait a bit, though. :) Are you going to go see any?

I'm going to be working at about half a dozen of them, and I think History of Violence is one of them. I'm told we're not allowed to stay for the movie unless there are extra seats left after everyone is seated, so I guess I'll have to see what happens.

Other than that, I'm not sure if I'm going to purchase any extra tickets for other movies. Between working 9-6 and putting in extra time for the film fest, and attending parties, I'm going to have my hands full and will probably want to use any spare time to catch up on sleep.

i have two coupons in my name cos a bunch of us bought a coupon book. my first choice is "summer in berlin". i like seeing foreign stuff that probably is never going to get a wide release. the galas, they'll come out on wide release in a few months. i think my second choice is "wah wah" - richard e. grant's directorial debut...cos i love him. however, i don't think i'll know what i got until friday or monday.

Ok...here's my list in no particular order:

Beowulf & Grendel
Genre: Action / Adventure / Drama / Fantasy
Plot Outline:
Adapted from the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf, BEOWULF & GRENDEL is a medieval adventure that tells the blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll in this provocative take on the first major work of English literature. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood - immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf's willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll's rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Building toward an inevitable and terrible battle, this is a tale where vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, BEOWULF & GRENDEL strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale that rings true through the centuries.

Everything Is Illuminated
Genre: Adventure / Comedy / Drama
Plot Outline:
A young Jewish American man endeavors to find the woman who saved his grandfather during World War II in a Ukrainian village, that was ultimately razed by the Nazis, with the help of a local who speaks weirdly funny broken English.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Genre: Animation / Comedy / Fantasy
Plot Outline:
Victor (Johnny Depp) is travelling home with his friend to get married to his fiancee Victoria (Emily Watson). The two stop to rest in the woods, and as a joke, Victor puts his wedding ring on a finger-shaped stick in the ground and says his wedding vows. The stick turns out to be a rotted finger belonging to a murdered girl (Helena Bonham-Carter), who returns as a zombie and insists that she is now Victor's lawfully wedded wife.

Isolation
Genre: Horror
Plot Outline:
On a remote Irish farm, five people become unwilling participants in an experiment that goes nightmarishly wrong.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Genre: Animation / Adventure / Comedy / Family
Plot Outline:
It's 'vege-mania' in Wallace and Gromit's neighborhood, and our two enterprising chums are cashing in with their humane pest-control outfit, "Anti-Pesto." With only days to go before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, business is booming, but Wallace & Gromit are finding out that running a "humane" pest control outfit has its drawbacks as their West Wallaby Street home fills to the brim with captive rabbits. Suddenly, a huge, mysterious, veg-ravaging "beast" begins attacking the town's sacred vegetable plots at night, and the competition hostess, Lady Tottington, commissions Anti-Pesto to catch it and save the day. Lying in wait, however, is Lady Tottington's snobby suitor, Victor Quartermaine, who'd rather shoot the beast and secure the position of local hero-not to mention Lady Tottingon's hand in marriage. With the fate of the competition in the balance, Lady Tottington is eventually forced to allow Victor to hunt down the vegetable chomping marauder. Little does she know that Victor's real intent could have dire consequences for her ...and our two heroes.

Proof?
Genre: Drama
Plot Outline:
The daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician, recently deceased, tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance; his insanity. Complicating matters are: one of her father's ex-students who wants to search through his papers, and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs

A History of Violence
Genre:Drama / Thriller
Plot Outline:
An average family is thrust into the spotlight after the father commits a seemingly self-defense murder at his diner

Caché
Genre: Drama / Thriller
Plot Outline:
Georges, who hosts a TV literary review, receives packages containing videos of himself with his family -- shot secretly from the street -- and alarming drawings whose meaning is obscure. He has no idea who may be sending them. Gradually, the footage on the tapes becomes more personal, suggesting that the sender has known Georges for some time. Georges feels a sense of menace hanging over him and his family but, as no direct threat has been made, the police refuse to help...

Hostel
Genre: Horror
Plot Outline:
Prepare to go to a dark place. Eli Roth returns to the Festival after Cabin Fever, his fantastic, flesh-ripping orgy that started life as a Midnight Madness premiere. With Hostel, his newest, he asks the question: how far is too far when you’re on vacation?

It’s the last hurrah before entering the real world of jobs and responsibility for Josh (Derek Richardson) and Paxton (Jay Hernandez). They are backpacking around Europe, sampling the finest in booze and drugs and partaking in the seedy thrills of sex tourism. In Amsterdam they meet up with a fellow trekker, a wild and capricious Icelander named Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson), and the three hear about a libidinous backpacker’s Shangri-La. It’s a Slovakian city nearly devoid of men due to ongoing civil strife. There they are meant to find a hostel frequented by local babes eager to hook up with foreign fellas.

The merry trio arrive in the picturesque old-world town and check into the legendary hostel. They aren’t disappointed: the place resembles a chateau, replete with a spa and plenty of hot ladies. After a night of debauchery, Oli is nowhere to be found. Chalking it up to his unpredictable ways, Paxton continues on his licentious path to enlightenment while Josh begins to question the wisdom of what they are doing. The mystery behind Oli’s disappearance leads the two friends into a hell never mentioned in any travel guide, a hell where, language differences aside, the screams are loud and clear.
