Hi, not sure if this has been covered already. If it is, my apologies for being redundant, if not, here you go...

If you're using Winamp version anything higher than 2.2, please change your decoder! The built in MP3 decoder is Nitrane which sucks big ding dong with major flaws! Go here: http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~djmr...coders/faq.html

Nitrane fails miserbly in all tests. The best ones are FHG and Mpeg123, both are available as plugins to replace the winamp built in piece of crap. I recommend the Mpeg123 as it allows you to use the EQ while the FHG's doesn't work on anything over 6k.

Anyway, just do yourself a favour and go to that link, look at the tests and read it for yourself. The plugin decoders will only take you minutes to get but boy does it pay off.

P.S. Warning though, after the upgrade, your winamp will sound so clear and crisp that you can detect the impurities (clicks) in some vinyl ripped mp3s.

cheers.

Thanks man! I unconsciously used Sonic Siren many times since it apparently produced better sound quality than Winamp but Sonic was unable to play some of my mp3-files so for those I used Winamp. Winamp 2.64 (and previous versions too) crash my twin-P3/450 Intel on NT4 SP 5 pretty annoyingly. SP6 is supposed to help with this problem but if I install it, Visual J++ stops working... oh well. Thanks again.

Here's the direct URL to Winamp MPG123-decoder plugin. It rocks.
