It's nice for give some reciprocation for a change when this country gives more than a lot of country's GNPs.
Call it cosmic karma but time to give back a little; why kick a country when it's down? :conf:

canadians give donations to any possible charity out there already....beign here for a few years ive noticed that any cause is enough to donate to despite the hand to mouth living by 75% of the population....if anyone wants to donate, i think they already have it planned....no need to be asked to

I don't think it's about being asked as much as where to actually make your donation.
I agree, we Canadians really are a caring country, especially when a major catastrophe hits.

I posted earlier that we made a donation to the Red Cross but it appears now that the TD Bank hasn't set anything up yet.

Anyone know if any of the other banks have anything set up yet?

I'd image in the next few days there will be plenty of places to donate. :)

No one is kicking anyone, all I am saying that instead of directing your funds towards the richest country in the world, how about you direct it to a country that would benefit a lot more from it.

So let me get this straight.
If some rich guy in a mercedes gets in a bad accident at an insection here in Toronto, you're not going to help him, even though you're right there because you believe he doesn't need the help??
You know what? Everyone needs help at some point.
It's assinine to think that just because someone is well off (or you think they are) that they don't need help just like everyone else.

I have to agree with Fir3star3r here. I can't believe that some of you people wouldn't want to thelp the States. When to Tsumnai happend (yes I know the Tsumnai was much larger than this) Canada was one if the not THE country that donated the most money, and there is nothing set up yet here in Canada to help the States out??? I was sitting here thinking myself...God if I were rich I would take a gazillion bottles of water down there for the people who are still there. It's so devastating. People have staving babies. The elderly people are dying because its so hot and they're dehydrated. Gangs are pretty much running New Orlenas now, looting and shooting up things. It's urban America, and it looks like a poor African town now. It's so sad, I almost want to cry when I see footage of the hurricane. It's so devastating and very very sad.

Now you are taking it way out of context. No I wouldn't help him, I'd let him rot there and die, what kind of a question is that? Would I help him out financially with his car and insurance bills? No.

We are talking about 'financial' aid here, which their government is more than adequate in providing.

Would I donate supplies? Sure, but money? Not a chance.

Im glad that you would be willing to help, but who not the same compassion for a 3rd country, which lives like that every day? Is it just easier to show compassion for something that is on tv more often than not?
Im not saying you should, or should not do anything. Im just wondering why certain people put more effort towards certain causes.

Where exactly do we think the money is going?
I bet they'll buy...supplies... ;)

$$ is just a lot easier to designate than say, a pair of shoes or a blanet when they really need water or canned goods.
Pick your charity and let them decide since they have a better idea of what's really required rather than guessing.

Any donation is good however so kutos to you :)
