here is what I propose:
A centralized music network in which subscribers pay a monthly fee and have legal access to EVERY SINGLE SONG that has ever been created (think audiojelly on steroids). Subscribers can do with these songs however they please: more specifically for our purposes, DJ's are allowed to legally sample or use entire tracks for live gigs. And tunes are streamed to you on demand via satellite, whether you're driving or jogging with your iPod or at home about to record a new mix. This music can then be recorded as raw data.
I admit, it is a bit conservative in its very premise, as I can imagine a lot of independent record labels resisting a move to such a conglomeration. The music network would not be one record label, per se, but I'm imagining something like audiojelly or beatport, where one could have access to the vast treasure chest of all recorded music that is ripe to be sampled.
so basically if TiVo, Audiojelly and XM radio had a threesome, this would be the baby.
what do you guys think? what would be fair to charge for unlimited access to all recorded music all the time, and would people go for it? |
