Ar-gen-tina, Ar-gen-tina, Ar-gen-tina . . .
What a night. I won't forget this one for a long time.
The event was held in the Karma Lounge of On Broadway. This is the downstairs club that has a capacity of several hundred. Usually the sound down there is your standard muddled to loud and to high mix but last night it was fine. They must of brought in extra base because I could feel it.
Hernan's set was pure aural sculpture. Sounded a lot like Digweeds latest sets but spliced in with the dirty, dirty beats. He had the crowd in a frenzy the entire two plus hours he played (all cd's no laptop). I went to get a drink and turned back to the dj booth and the entire room was dancing. Not just dancing but jumping too.
If you’re a fan of Prog that makes your hips sway uncontrollably you must see this guy tonight. This was my favorite set of the year.
Now for a couple of observations . . .
I felt like I was at the Argentinean model convention. The room, especially in front of the booth area was brimming with beautiful Argentinean women. Stunning.
Why do people insist on interrupting the DJ with autograph request when he is in the middle of spinning? You could tell Hernan was getting slightly annoyed with the constant slips of paper being thrust in his face. Especially when he was mixing. The guy seems pretty intense (no drinks just water and a fruit plate) and the constant interruptions seemed inappropriate.
Also what’s with the guys with the .5-megapixal camera phones climbing on the speakers in front of the DJ booth taking pictures? The guy wouldn't quit and was blocking everyone’s view (the booth is almost at ground level @ the Karma Lounge. I was right in front much of the night). Then the guy turned around and I thought he was going to stage dive.
Overall a wonderful night. Thanks Brian and Paul for bringing Hernan to San Diego in such an intimate venue. Lets work on bringing him back soon.
Sweet

| Dude i totally agree with the review for this night. Hernan was hands down the sickest progressive dj I have seen yet. THis was also hands down the best set i've heard all year. Hernan brought the pain all night!!! I highly recommend checking this guy out for sure. I wish we could get music like that more often!!!!! |

| The best set I have heard in SD in years... the guy is flat out amazing. Next time he comes to town we're giving him six hours... (at his request). Who are we to say no? |

Hey, when you bring him back, do so on a weekend, willya? Some of us old farts have trouble getting a hall pass on a schoolnite.
I was out of town over labor day weekend and left Thursday night so I couldn't make it. Bummed, 'cuz I've wanted to see him for a long time. When I -can- make it to mid-week shows, I do like the crowd better, because I know nobody is there by accident. No tourists. I revel in the shared, common purpose.
Are they doing multiple ticket prices/access? For Deep Dish, you had to pay extra and have a wrist band to get access to the tables...and there was a whole different price point to get access to the "vip" area that had bottle service. |
