Manuel Sofia (aka MOS) Biography

Born on February 17th 1981, Manuel Sofia (MOS) was exposed to music at a very young age. Thanks to his mother (a renowned Argentinean classical pianist) and his brother Oliverio (one of the best known DJs in Buenos Aires), MOS has been able to develop his interest as well as his talent in what has become his passion.
MOS slowly learned the art of the turntables by watching his brother. Eventually, Oliverio asked MOS to play his warm-up sessions at various clubs throughout Buenos Aires. MOS quickly established himself as an artist and at the age of Seventeen he became the resident dj at the ODEON club (one of Buenos Aires icons at the time).

Just as MOS was starting his dj career, MOS also began to produce electronic music. His first tracks were Down tempo, Drum and Bass, and Techno cuts; many of which were released in local compilations.

Slowly making a name for himself as a DJ and being one of the youngest producers of the Argentinean scene, MOS began several residences in the Buenos Aires underground. His experience, talent, and passion for music has opened the doors for him to dj in clubs such as the famous Basement club, Living, Chocolate Mar del Plata, Mint, Bahrein and the first Creamfields festival in Buenos Aires.

In the year 2002, MOS decided it was time for a change. He moved to Barcelona, Spain where he continued with his music career stronger than ever. It was in Spain where Oliverio and MOS decided to create Hermanos de Sangre. This formation quickly caught the attention of DJs such as Hernan Cattaneo, who in turn passed on the CDR on to Ben Turner (Pete Tong´s radio producer). Ben was working on the book/cd CREAM X 10 where he licensed a track called "Memories" from the Hermanos de Sangre compilation.

At the same time MOS was producing solo tracks, djing at clubs such as Otto Zutz and Over the Club in Barcelona, as well as performing in festivals held in Madrid and Barcelona.

Hernan Cattaneo has taken a great liking to the production work MOS has created and Hernan continues to chart and play almost every track that MOS has produced. Through the critique and support of Hernan Cattaneo, MOS has started to find his place in the music industry as well as with his sound.

2004 is the year in which MOS has seen the most success for his production work. He licensed tracks to labels such as ACUTE, VAPOUR and SWIFT. G Pal chose "Difficult Emotions" to be part of his own mixed CD (which was available worldwide in February 2005) through SWIFT RECORDINGS. MOS has also produced tracks with his great friend Leandro Pugliese, (aka Plastique Vision / Lega) which will soon be released under Pissed Off Recordings and Swift.

Artists such as Satoshi Tomiie, G Pal, Joshua Collins, Hernan Cattaneo, Greg Benz, Shiloh, Jason Jollins, and James Holden consistently play different tracks by him and support his work

In 2004, MOS started his own label called PISSED OFF RECORDINGS. MOSs mission through PISSED OFF RECORDINGS is to create a space for Argentinean artists as well as for international production talent. Artists such as G Pal, Hawaii, MOS, Subsky, Plastique Vision, Oliverio, Rob Mooney and Madoka currently make up this very promising line-up. The support of such great international artists will insure, with out a doubt, that PISSED OFF will be one of the labels to count on in 2005 and for years to come.

Although still a very new label, PISSED OFF has made a great impact globally with its first release. It was through PISSED OFF that MOS released his first 12. The chosen track was Elektrify which was released in conjunction with a remix from the Turkish star, Subsky. Aside from being played and charted by many of the worlds top djs, Elektrify sold out and was awarded Best 2004 Single by Polish website SoundRevolt.com.

In 2005, MOS has already performed in countries such as Turkey, Argentina, USA, Spain and Greece. Greece saw MOS in Athens with G Pal at Luv Club and Turkey received MOS in Istanbul playing at Republic Club.

Aside from PISSED OFF RECORDINGS, MOS has been working alongside his brother Oliverio to start a new label called OFF SIDE RECORDINGS. Off Side will show the techier side of MOS with an impressive debut release by brothers Oliverio and MOS called Break My Mind. The B side of this release will feature a massive remix by Hernan Cattaneo and John Tonks. Already holding an impressive artist roster, Off Side will be releasing tracks from artists such as Kriece, Lega, Plastique Vision, Petersky, Cattaneo and Tonks, as well as by Oliverio and MOS.

At the age of 24, MOS has already given so much to the world of electronic music and has plenty more left in him to share. There is no doubt that MOS has an exquisite taste for his productions and a strength and technique that make his dj sessions stand out.
