Hi,
Does anyone know what the average is to get paid for a release? Not that i would really care about the money, but if i did make that great track and get it released it would be nice if i could quit my part-time job and concentrate on music.

Im not talking about a big release on Sony Records or whatever, just on a small label.

How does it work? do you get paid for every record sold or do the label buy the track from you?

Thanks

producers in trance music get paid all i dont have exact figures i wouldnt plan on quitting ur day job for it.
Thats probably the main reason why alot of big producers turn djs

Couple of 100 $ if you're lucky. If you get some major compilations you might earn more but then again, it can take up to a couple of years before you actually receive that money, especially if they're foreign compilations. Usually half is paid via the label, the other half (more or less) via music right organisations in that country (ie buma / stemra NL).

I wouldn't count on quiting your day job just yet. I've had around 40 releases total by now and I can barely manage to live of it without having to work, though that gets hard at times. DJing adds up nicely but then again, both are very unreliable sources of income.

Also, the difference between an 'underground' track and a 'mainstream' track (ie top 40) is HUGE is terms of money. Get a track into the top 40, preferably in a couple of countries, and it'll save you of your daytime job for a few years ;)
