best audio software?

well, i have a 5.1 system and i was just wondering what everyone felt the best audio software there is out there? Right now i'm just simply using iTunes because i like the instant organization of files as i add them to my library, but i'd like to venture more into the quality of the music i'm playing back.
preferably the best mp3 player and any of those audio "enhancing" programs |

The audio enhancing programs as you call them usually just EQ your sound in excessive ways or add some reverb type effects for the most part.
Keep in mind that the key things are top quality files if you are playing mp3s and also a good set of speakers. The rest is also helpful but you need to start with good bare essentials or else it'll be like trying to turn dog doo doo into gold :p |

Can you describe what kind of 5.1 system you have, Is it one of those made by Cambridge Soundworks?, They make great 5.1 surround systems for PCs, However, The only way your gonna get true 5.1 out of your PC. Is if your soundcard has digital outputs that connect straight to the system, Also you would have to change the settings in your OS to use only the digital outputs, Cause by default it uses the analogue outputs. |
