I got loads of pics guys...they're coming soon. I hope by the end of next week at the latest. I'm still in Toronto so I don't even have them all with me here.
Techhead - Hawaii isn't THAT expensive. A lot of the activities I did...i.e. surfing, skyline, swam with dolphins (or as Cale likes to say, "sex with dolphins", did get kind of pricey, b/c it's so commercial...but it wasn't insane. The food was decent, I had quite a variety. In regards to the traditional Hawaiin food, the only time I really ate it I think would have been at the luau's I went to, and I loved the food. I'm not the biggest fan of fish though. I'm kinda picky when it comes to that...I didn't really like the mahi mahi (or however you spell it!). And as for clubs...didn't make it to any...but that I'll explain later!
Dan - I showed a bunch of people that video, I thought it was the funniest thing ever! Haha I have another one of me jumping off a cliff into water. There's a video I have before that even...it's of me standing there ready to go, and then backing out! Haha
Zookeeper - I went to Oahu and stayed 2 blocks away from Waikiki for a week and then I went to Maui and stayed in Kehi for a week. It was awesome...details to come. Also, I didn't see any active volacnos but I went up mount Haelakaee or something, I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I went on a sunrise bike tour down the volcano, it was awesome!
Tamiko - I stayed at the Waikiki Banyan and the Maui Banyan...both gorgeous condos on Oahu and Maui respectively. And totally agree with you on wanting to go back..."yea when I was in Hawaii..." seems to come up a lot! P.S. I think we've been to a number of parties together, but have failed to officially meet!! What's up with that?! Haha |

I'm still in Toronto right now, but I get back to Windsor this weekend and I'm going to put all my pictures up on Shutterfly. It's going to take awhile though, b/c I have TONS and I want to organize them all (and as some of you know, this takes me forever b/c I'm too ing organized!) Anyway, I'll post the link as soon as it's up, and I'll also post some info on what I did while I was gone :)

| my favourite parts of oahu from this summer were watching the sun sets at the North Shore and running up the Diamond Head trail just outside (south of) waikiki every day<---- most amazing sunrise you'll see of waikiki. |

Hello all…so I’m back from Hawaii as you can tell. I’m sure some of you are interested in seeing my pictures and wondering what I did. I’m gonna give you a brief summary of what I did each day, but remember I was gone for two weeks (and I tend to babble) so I’m warning you now it’s going to be long. Read it all, skim through it, or don’t read any of it…but here it is if you’re interested. As for pictures…there are tons of those as well, I hope to have the link up by the weekend. I'm still trying to put captions under all of them, and then I have to upload them. Thanks for being patient. I'm really excited for you to see them!
Here's the little schedule of what I did however...
August 20th – ARRIVE TO OAHU
I left really early to get to the Metro Airport, and got to Oahu around dinner time. My parents and I were kind of tired so we just strolled down to Waikiki Beach (2 blocks from our condo) and walked around. It was gorgeous! The weather was beautiful as well, hot yet breezy.
August 21st – SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS
My parents and I went to Sea Life Park, and on the scenic drive there we stopped at a bunch of lookouts and took some pictures. At the theme park itself, I had reservations to swim with dolphins. I ended up upgrading it and got to play with penguins, sea lions, dolphins, sting rays and a wholphin sp? (half whale-half dolphin). One of the dolphins I played with was actually the one from 50 First Dates! After that, my dad and I went on a hike through some forest to the Jack Ass Ginger Pool, where I got ATTACKED by mosquitoes. We got some nice pics though!
August 22nd – DOLE PLANTATION/POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTRE
In the morning I went to the Dole Plantation…it was interesting. They took us on a train through the plantation and we saw pineapple, leechee, coffee, guava, sugar cane and all kinds of plants and trees. My dad and I went through the world’s largest outdoor maze there and almost gave up! It took over 30mins, and it was sweltering!
Afterwards we spent the rest of the day at the Polynesian Cultural Centre…a must see! It’s a theme park geared towards educating people about 5 Polynesian Island cultures. They have shows, demonstrations, and tons of hands on activities.
August 23rd – PEARL HARBOUR/PARADISE COVE LUAU
The morning was spent at Pearl Harbour. It wasn’t anything special, but it was nice to see the monument they had there to remember all of the people who had died. We cruised around to some more beaches in the afternoon and then went to a luau at Paradise Cove at night. It was great! They had all kinds of booths set up to make bracelets and leis. You could go out on a Hawaiian canoe and get beautiful fake tattoos. The dinner and show was great too. I had a bunch of drink tickets…sooooo I got a bit tipsy. I joined in the hula dancing on stage…twice! ‘Twas a good night indeed!
August 24th – DIAMOND HEAD/MANOA FALLS
In the morning, my dad and I made the hike up Diamond Head. It was a lot of fun. My mom made it about 10 feet and called it quits! Haha wimp! It’s alright though; she made it through the hike in the rainforest to Manoa Falls. The hikes took up most of the day, so when we got back to our condo my parents napped, and I cruised down to the beach. There was a surf competition going on there, so I watched part of it and just relaxed.
August 25th – DORIS DUKE HOUSE/POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTRE LUAU
My dad really waned to see the house of this woman, Doris Duke. I guess she inherited a ton of money when she was really young. To make a long story short, she loved Middle Eastern art work and she built a house on the beach and decorated it with a very Middle Eastern theme. It was beautifully done, but not a place I would want to live.
We went back to the Polynesian Cultural Centre afterwards to go to their luau and their night show called Horizons. Both which were a ton of fun. Met some friendly people at the luau, and saw some really impressive dance numbers at the show.
August 26th – MANDARIN HOTEL/BEACH
Some people we met at the luau the night before mentioned this Mandarin Hotel Resort that had a beautiful beach, and an area to swim with dolphins and such. So we went there in the morning, took some pictures and looked around. I was going to do the dolphin swim there, but it was booked up already! :( I wasn’t feeling too well after that, so I went back to the Condo and my parents went downtown to look around there. After taking a nap, I went down to the beach and hung out in the sun and did a bit of shopping.
August 27th – ARRIVE TO MAUI
In the morning I went down to Waikiki to watch some more of the Duke surf competitions. Then it was time to fly to Maui. By the time I got there, met up with my brother (who was flying from Toronto to meet my parents and I), it was past dinner time and we were all exhausted. On the plus side, when we got to our hotel, they told us they had none of the condos we asked for left, so they had to upgrade us to the 3 room deluxe suite! Aces! My brother and I were planning on going downtown later that night to have some drinks, but we both passed right out.
August 28th – HANA/SEVEN SACRED POOLS
I don’t know if any of you have heard about the road to Hana, but it’s this famous twisty, scenic road around a mountain to this town. There are no gas stations and no food…so you have to go prepared. Along the way there are many stops to hike through forests and find some gorgeous waterfalls. We stopped at a few, the first being Twin Falls, where my brother and I put on our swim suits and water shoes and climbed through the waterfalls. It was tons of fun!
We kept driving, making a few stops to monkey around and take pictures, but our last stop of the day was at the Seven Sacred Pools. Holy crap it was gorgeous! My brother and I again climbed around the rocks there, and did some swimming. We got some great pictures, and a couple videos of us jumping of a rock ledge into one of the pools.
August 29th – SKYLINE ECO ADVENTURES/IONA NEEDLE
In the morning, my family and I went on this Skyline tour where they give you a harness and you slide down an aircraft cable through the forest. There were 5 lines, each getting longer and faster. It was lots of fun but crazy expensive!
After that, we kept driving up the mountain to some trails, but the fog was so bad you couldn’t see your hand in front of you. Instead we decided to drive to another part of the island and go to the Iona Needle, which is just a giant rock sticking up in the middle of a valley. It was pretty though, and there was a small waterfall that my brother and I went to go play around in.
August 30th – SUNRISE BIKE TOUR DOWN MOUNT HALAEKALA
My dad, my brother and I got picked up from our hotel at 2am to drive up a volcano and watch the sunrise. Boy was it cold! It was defiantly worth it to see the sunrise though. It was so beautiful! After the sunrise we met with a small tour group and got on some downhill bikes and coasted down the mountain. It was a really great experience. We stopped about two thirds of the way down to have breakfast, and then kept going to this hippie town. Along the way we passed Tom Sellek’s old house (called The White Star Ranch) and Carlos Santana’s house. I guess we made 2 World Records too…we went through 7 ecosystems in a day and we road down the longest downhill trail in the shortest amount of time or something…I can’t remember I was so tired!
I also learned a couple things about pineapples! I don’t know if these tips are true or not…but I’ll give ‘em to you anyway. First of all, pineapple plants grow 3 pineapples…each smaller then the first. They all however have the same sugar contact, so therefore the smallest pineapples will in fact be the sweetest. Also, when shipping pineapples, all of the sugar goes to the bottom (or whatever side it’s laying on), so you should cut the top of the pineapple off, and set it upside down for awhile to let all the sugar soak back through.
August 31st – SURFING
In the morning my brother and I had a surfing lesson. We were going to rent surfboards afterwards, but it ended up being cheaper to just get another lesson. They had a special on repeat lessons, and since we just had the instructional part, we got to skip that and just spend it all surfing. I thought it was a good idea, b/c we still got the coaching and help from the instructor. By the end of the day however, my ribs hurt, and my arms were killing me! We also did a bit of shopping and walked around this cool little surfing town called Lahaina.
After dinner I saw some people playing Ultimate Frisbee and thought of Josh's frisbee league. I was really missing all my friends by now! There was a little skate-park next to where the ppl were playing frisbee though. So I went to check that out and met a few locals.
September 1st – SNORKELLING
We had to get up really early today to get on this 7hr cruise to go snorkelling. I was a little sick at first, but my nausea cleared up. My next challenge however was the snorkelling. I’ve only snorkelled once before (minus 15 min. at Sea Life Park). I was really young however, and when I did I missed the lesson and went on my own. I couldn’t breathe properly and started hyperventilating, then swallowed some salt water and freaked out. I’ve been too scared to snorkel ever since. So when we got ready at the first stop to go snorkelling, I got the gear on and started freaking out again. I was so terrified I started crying! For those of you who know me well know this is not a rare occurrence! I’m quite emotional! But like the trooper that I am, I pushed through. I sat on the deck for a couple minutes with the snorkel gear on, looking like a fool, and settled down and practiced breathing. I finally got in the water, and was glad I gave it a try. I was still super nervous and stayed close to my brother, but by the time we got to the second stop, I was out wandering around on my own.
September 2nd – JET SKIING
My family and I drove around to some small towns and such…looking around. My brother and I also rented a jet ski. I’ve never been before, but he has. He was taking us off some crazy jumps and such, and I almost cried. Well no I didn’t. It was fun, but I was so scared I was going to fall off. I was yelling in his ear the whole time. I got on the wheel for awhile too though, and it was quite exhilarating.
September 3rd – BACK HOME
We flew out of Maui early afternoon…the rest of my day pretty much consisted of that, and getting excited to see my friends!
Sept 4th – LABOUR OF LOVE

Don't worry...my tan faded by the time I got back to Windsor (from a week in Toronto). Well atleast it did for the most part! In fact, a lot of it had faded by the time I got to Toronto! The first week in Hawaii I was black though! You'll see soon enough! |
