Whats the deal with Club Lucid? (pg. 3)

Exactly, and I'd like to stay on topic. What I will say is that the Miker is a nice guy and is under a lot of pressure to make PR work. Unlike DI he does not get free and unlimited bandwidth to comprise his streams and therefore he must warrant the use of ads on his site. I give miker a lot of credit for sticking it out for years already, he deserves a little reward for the work he's put into PR and I hope it bring him nothing but success.

What toronto needs now is an edm club that plays edm but has regular club hours. There are so many partiers out there that just dont go out because they need to work or get up early the next day for various reasons. The problem, is that Lucid is too big to be turned into "the first." On top of that, the size of the place makes any sound system in there sound like utter shyte. EDM clubs are all about good music on lound systems, and the echo at lucid is horrible. It would need a lot of work to turn into something decent. |
so you guys are suggesting that an EDM only club wouldn't make it in TO unless their were class acts every night?
Also, what about if they turned some of the larger rooms and divided them into smaller rooms for sound quality purposes... Or you can always modify the current rooms, i'm sure that problem isn't that hard to fix.
Is there anything else? |

everyone here is essentially saying the same thing. i dont know what the answer would be but one weekend me and some friends wanted to go out downtown (richmond area) and i was searching for a place that had edm. unfortunately i couldnt find one.
republik has a dumb ass dress code so me nor my sneakers could get in, and no where else played edm (between 12-3)!!! i approached numerous promoters handing out flyers and none of em knew of a club in the area that did!!! so in the end we went to guv (which was awesome, of course).
the problem i dont think is the area, i actually like goin out where theres a mix of people, but i wanna be able to jam to edm scene. unfortunately richmond doesnt cater to edm though. due to past failures to try to bring it there makes it only harder (i guess).
what i have found though, is that little italy (college st area) isnt too bad, theres a few small venues like lily lounge that play nice house in the basement and the crowd is cool. only problem is dress code (sometimes), which is my biggest pet peeve.
the adage, "if you build it they will come" will work but only if you put in a lot of hard work promoting. in order to establish an edm club in richmond you have to develop a regular patronage. but the market for it is not really growing, so then you basically have to detract people from guv, systems, etc, and they are fully established.
its hard but not impossible, i try to keep an open mind so i would definately give a new club a chance. variety is always nice. |

I don't think you need to have class acts every night....but to get people to come see your club in the beginning you do. I am always up for checking out a new club and if a new one opened up I would be sure to check it out. The reason I attend Guv on a regular basis is Mark Oliver....he is an extremely talented resident DJ who can give you something a little different every night. I enjoy going to system but only go there on special nights....it's not because their resident DJs are not good....they are excellent but just not as talented as MO...if you get a top notch resident DJ that can be the difference |

I am just saying that the only EDM clubs in toronto cater to the afterhours club. There are a bunch of clubs that PLAY edm out here (Lot332, Mink's patio, etc...) but they all turn around and play hip hop for some of the night. What we should get, is a club that plays only EDM in the "main room." The problem is... we are in north america. Unless you play hip hop, you probably wont survive long. |

Ok, let me make a list of things that i've picked up on Lucid that may have been the cause of its failure.
1. Unorganized
This is still a problem for most mega clubs in that area. At least thats what I hear.
2. Over packed.
3. Under packed
4. Sound quality is bad because of the large rooms, causes echos.
5. Rude bartenders
6. Rude bouncers
7. don't ID at the door. Who wants to party with underage kids?
8. Main room is too open, add more objects like a mini dance stage or dancing circle.
9. Frisk people at the door.
10. When the club is full, don't have people line up across the street.
11. Better resident DJ
12. More Good music acts.
13. Seperate the rap from the EDM.
14. No dress code.
Thats a short list of what I can muster up. Does anyone else see something that i missed? |
