Windows media player difficulties I need help

My media player used to work great, but after I upgraded it the player doesn't work when I want to see a video on the internet. It says this which doesn't make any sense because I am on the internet and yeah you guys get any suggesstions or know how to fix this?
"Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again."
