Vestax PCV-275 w/ rotary kit. That's about it for cheap, quality, rotary mixers. It's been discontinued for a while now. |

Do they ever make the main X-Y fader rotary? Or is that always linear?
And this is all just personal preference right? Rotary isn't anymore 'elite' then linear faders? |

that's the crossfader and at least i haven't seen a mixer with a rotart crossfader (and i'm pretty sure they don't exist). rotary mixers are usually top of the line mixers and therefore more expensive, but there's nothing that makes them more high quality that linear faders. as far as i know both should be able to reach the same audio quality. loads of djs prefer rotary mixers and they are pretty elite. i've never played on a rotary mixer, but i hate linear faders and love knobs, so i might be getting one some day.

the level meters they have each channel on the xone92 are straight joke. they don't look bad in the picture, but in real life... it looks pretty lame to have that tiny little level meter next to the slider. the should never included it if they weren't gonna be serious about it.
back on topic. like others said, pcv-275 w/rotary option. only way to go this very moment. or wait for the new denon mixers to come out. but those are 19" 4 channel mixers. they are inexpensive compared the 2016, and other rotaries out there. but they are not junk either. |

What do you mean tiny? They're nine-segment meters, and they're bright as hell.

Rotary mixers are considered elite because they are more expensive. And because mixing on a true rotary mixer is a bit harder, because there usually aren't any eq's, either. |

i know they are 9seg, and bright. what i was trying to say was that they look completely insignificant on the mixer. like they included it to add to the gay ass synchronized candy raver laser light show vibe that the mixer exudes. maybe it's because the mixer looks all clutered w/all the knobs and buttons. but to me, it's looks like a joke. the only thing this mixer needs to be the complete package is to have a fog machine built in, and possibly a disco/mirror ball option.
it's one of cleanest sounding mixers i have ever layed my hands on. but looking at it, (especially when it's on) absolutely disgusts me.
i could never bring myself to spend MY money on that thing. |

Or maybe they added them so you can set your levels before you bring the tune in... believe me, 9 segments is a of a lot better than the 4 segments they had on the xone62, that really was a joke!
And using rotary mixers gives you a larger penis. Or at least that's what some people seem to believe :p
But seriously, if you don't do any cutting etc then if you can get used to them then rotary controls could well be the way forward - it makes it easier to be acurate with your levels etc, although as you can probably imagine it makes it difficult to make any sudden changes - cutting a track out, quickly slamming it in etc (unless you just use the crossfader for that)
Although having said that it's not too difficult to be accurate with faders... you're a lot less likely to accidentally knock a rotary though! |
