wow, ok, so i thought i finally found my gemstone in the E-Mu 1616. it sounded perfect. onboard DSP, Zero latency harware monitoring, 16 I/O, and on board midi. until i realized:
no support for mac
excuse me for a second while i vent: WTF was creative thinking when the came out with an interface this powerful and made it for MS only. I in no way am trying to start another Mac vs. PC war, but in the music industry macs are the standard (not saying best, but its the standard). i mean c'mon that was a HUGE mistake IMO. ok back to the topic at hand...
so this is the minimum for what i NEED: 4 analog in/2 analog out, MIDI in, and most importantly zero latency harware monitoring. i need to have NO and i do mean true zero latency monitoring for no more than 2 of my analog inputs, small enough to travel with and of course, support for my G4 Powerbook running 10.4
I was looking at the lexicon omega since they claim its zero latency, but am very sketchy about it since its USB. i am currently running a M-audio Firewire 410, but it only has 2 analog ins and even though its very low latency, id like to get it lower. i was really loving the idea of having an onboard DSP in the 1616 seeing as i run ALOT of VSTs, and could do without using my CPU to handle all of that.
i was checking out the RME Hammerfall but it is $300 US only for the PCMCIA card and you still have to buy the breakout box seperatly. i really didnt wanna drop more than $500 for one but if i have to i will.
does anyone know of any other options?
and if the hammerfall is my best option, how is their sound quality? and will their PCMCIA system take some of the workload off my CPU for my VSTs?
thanks for the help guys, i REALLY appreciate it. |
